Can the GL.iNet GL-AX1800 be used with mesh?

By the manufactorer firmwares, the GL.iNet GL-AX1800 does not support a mesh network.

I was wondering if we could flash openwrt firmwares on it that support mesh?

I like the wireguard speed it offers, has wifi 6 and allows many devices to be connected. Not many routers do that for a decent price. I currently have a RT-AX86U and it is not able to handle the ~40 wifi devices in my home. (lot of smart home devices with barely any traffic, like light bulbs)

Open for alternative suggestions for routers if it's not possible. Or i might just decide to use the device as extender, which isn't ideal.

mesh would work, if there was a openwrt firmware for it,
there's however some WIP in GL-iNet AX1800 new router - OpenWrt support?
