Works pretty nice, I have it running for a few weeks now. Some occasional crashes with the driver, but it auto recovers nicely.
Ansuel reported the issue on github to the maintainer of the driver, but he seems to ignore it. Latest nightly build from yesterday somehow broke my connection to the HP Officejet 8600 printer. Thing is 7 years old, so couldn't really be bothered and just grabbed an ethernet cable.
If you're om master you can also just upgrade the adblock package without flashing your device.
When I update to hnymans latest build and keep my existing configuration settings, I loose internet connectivity, is this most likely due to change from adblock 3.8 to 4.0?
Possibly.
You need to check the log for Adblock items.
You might also copy the new default adblock settings from /rom/etc/config
@hnyman - do you think this looks like the way ahead on 802.11v? What is your opinion on adding dawn to the feature set on your builds, seems like a nice gui, too early?

Love your work on this build @hnyman . I was just about to upgrade and then noticed your 19.07 build is still showing last modified in January, just wondering if /when you'll be building an image based on 19.07.2 ?
Edit: Sorry ignore - I got confused by the american date format dropbox shows - last update is 1st April, not 4th Jan...
@hnyman what kernel is master-r12798-b51ea43f90-20200403 (ath10k-ct)
The current default, 4.19
You can also easily see that from the package list in "manifest" file.
Sorry... I didn't realise.
So I'm just looking at moving to this build from stock FW, am I right in thinking that all OpenWrt builds therefore are 30% WiFi slower throughput than stock?
Thanks!
May be its just my experience but all OpenWrt and DDwrt Wifi are much slower and not as stable compare to stock.
Stock is awful if you need QoS control and lower bufferbloat and also stock router is not very safe with low on updates.
So, i have main wired only router with OpenWrt and two wifi APs with stable Voхel builds ( improved stock). Works great at my location.
If your ISP connection is in the range of 500 Mbps and above Voxel's modified stock might be better option. Otherwise I prefer OpenWrt for its modularity, flexibility and fewer annoying bugs.
For me it is also very stable (with an exception of a few master builds so far).
Can only get 40Mbps down and 5Mbps up here unfortunately hence I was looking at using OpenWrt QoS as the stock QoS gets bad reviews typically and the database is from 2017...
Apart from OpenWRT being slower if you have 500MBit or more from your ISP due to lacking hardware offloading. I can't imagine stock offers THAT much raw Wifi speed over OpenWRT. Stock FW got MU-MIMO support, that might help if your Wifi is heavily loaded.
There are also custom firmwares (Voxel's) based on stock that you can try.
You can always backup your OpwnWRT config and try stock or a custom stock firmware, if you don't like it, go back to OpenWRT and restore the config.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong here.
My experience is different. I have moved to OpenWrt precisely because of better WiFi performance. Hardware flow offloading shouldn't have impact on WiFi performance. With HT80 on OpenWrt I am getting CIFS transfers of up to 600 Mbps. Plus I am having more granular control over my WiFi.
MU-MIMO sounds great but how many clients do you have supporting it?
Not sure if it’s improvements in 19.07 generally, or with improvements in SQM but I’m seeing the best results I’ve ever had on dslreports now. Thankyou to everyone involved, and specially you @hnyman for maintaining this great build.
I have openwrt wifi real speed between 400 and 500 mbs ( with a lot of fluctuations) at my distance and intel 9260 client and around 640mbs on stock wifi.
This why i have the best of both worlds to mixing OpenWrt wired router and Voxel Wifi AP for my specific needs
When flashing this for 1st time on a stock firmware R7800, will I need to use the tftp method or can I upload the openwrt firmware to netgear ui?
Thanks
tftp is required.
While the webinterface would accept the image file, doing so would only result in a bootlooping device (due to the different NAND partitioning).
Actually it should be enough to flash factory.img from web interface. TFTP is required while moving from OpenWrt to stock.
