Best router for wired performance in 2025?

Hello

I temporarly need a new OpenWrt router not running on x86-64. I have 1Gb symmetrical internet so I need the best wired performance. Even though I wont use Wi-Fi, I do need it to have WPA3 (for modern support) just in case in the future. With 4 ports, I believe it is enough. I dont want to go over 100€ (max max 150€)

I mostly need it to act as a OpenVPN server and Im outdated if I can block ads at OpenWrt level.

I have symmetrical 1 Gb internet but Id like something future proof. If it goes over the budget, then no, as my switches and PC only have 1 Gb.

2 people max will be using this internet connection, 1 wired and another wireless (wireless is on Ubiquiti)

A couple of USB 3.0 ports would be nice just for comfort. But not needed.

I need this ASAP so no AliExpress 20-30 day shipping. In Europe, so Amazon avaliably would be best

Thanks

A Wireguard comparison DB for Wireguard speeds (you haven't told us how fast you need).
Divide by 3 to get a guestimate of OpenVPN performance using the same SoC.

I'm trying to sell my old mochabin online at the moment with no joy. Are there rules on whether we can advertise on this forum anywhere? If it's allowed I can send you a link. It's a quad core, 8gb unit so well up to three job. Also has the wireless module installed. Would ship from the UK, I've never sent to Europe before but would be interested.

I dont need huge speeds. Just enough to see pictures, documents, 1080 videos, RDP, etc....Nothing crazy or out of this world (I think)

Not intrested

Fujitsu Futro S920 on eBay, with the GX-415GA ?

no wifi though, but it'll only cost you 40-50€ with PCIe riser and quad NIC included - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAxe2pAUY50.

The Asus TUF-AX4200 at 98€ looks pretty good.

But this is x86-64....Im not intrested in this.

So you don't like the x86_64, your loss, the TUF is fine, I guess.

I dont need it as this is a temporary router. I wont be using this day to day as I have something else.

I wouldn't spend 100€ on a temp router

https://www.ebay.de/itm/305846294843 reaches gigabit if you enable hw offloading, unless you need PPPoE too.

https://www.ebay.de/itm/296358521836 checks all your boxes (got USB2 not 3 though), but again, x86. I'd however double check with seller, sale says CR25wiNG, photo is of unit without the w in the model name, w in this case means wireless.

too bad Lanner NCA-1010B's aren't sold much in EU.

I mean I would spend even less but I doubt there is anything out there new for less than 100€ that runs OpenWRT that can support 1Gb WAN, has OpenVPN server support and has 4 ports.

gotta love when people add additional parameters as they go ...

  • not x86
  • not used

Since you are sensitive, I went ahead and edited the original post. Sorry.

you're getting replies/suggestions based on your initial post, don't you ?

And Im commenting why not on them, aren't I? I also went ahead and edited the initial post. I can make a entire new thread if required but seems like overkill.

The Asus TUF-AX4200 looks OK to me but....anything released in 2024 or 2025? Although I do LMAO at routers going for 700€

I dont mean this in a rude way (internet text can sometimes be interpreted as such) but I already have a x86 router that runs pfSense. I temporarly need a way cheaper alternative.

I honestly dont feel like I need to "explain" this when the initial post just says what I need and want  There shouldnt be a debate or sway to a x86-64 router. I dont know... I know what I want and I dont need recommendations on what arch (else I would have asked)

https://www.ebay.de/itm/157198219272 or https://www.ebay.de/itm/157198235859 also checks all boxes, and isn't x86

This is pretty much OpenWRT top of the line, unless you go SBC, x86, or perhaps the Asus Zen BT8.

Retail link?

Google Zyxel EX5601.
