hexdump: /dev/mtdblock2: I/O error
0002000```

I'm only seeing I/O Error in the mtdblock2, no hexdump in that one.

Thanks for this fix. The missing step for me was pulling your latest changes from the dangowrt/linksys-e4850-openwrt-installer repository with a simple git pull. After that, the recovery installer did the thing it was supposed to do, and after flashing the sysupgrade image I get 5GHz wifi and no ECC-related errors in my kernel log.

Can you explain the steps you have performed?

TIA

# cd /path/to/linksys-e8450-openwrt-installer
# git fetch --all
# git pull
# rm -rf dl openwrt-ib
# ./build_installer.sh

Then from luci

  1. generate a back-up archive,
  2. flash openwrt-mediatek-mt7622-linksys_e8450-ubi-initramfs-recovery-installer.itb , with the force option ticked and the keep configuration box unticked,
  3. let it reboot, re-aquire a brand new IP address, log into the new recovery-luci,
  4. flash openwrt-mediatek-mt7622-linksys_e8450-ubi-squashfs-sysupgrade.itb , again with the keep configuration box unticked,
  5. let it reboot, re-acquire a brand new IP address, log into the new real luci,
  6. Restore the back-up archive from step 1.

The hexdump posted by @base0010 look correct. I can see both mt7622 and mt7915 eeprom data at the correct offset (the error after that is in unused area so shouldn't matter). However, I don't even see the mt7915e driver even trying to load or probe the 5 GHz chip. Maybe the kmod-mt7915e package is missing and needs to be installed?

hello everybody i have update too first recovery 0.5.3 then sysupgrade snapshot but wifi 5 don't work

i'm on OpenWrt SNAPSHOT r17456-a7aa237c28 / LuCI Master git-21.226.86205-376af36

how to verify the command error ? thanks

Can you provide the below details to Daniel, he should be able to look into this and suggest you a solution. I was able to bring back the 5Ghz network after installing 0.5.3 recovery and then using 0.5.3 sysupgrade package. I upgraded it to the latest snapshot. Thanks to Daniel and all you guys in here.

You need to force-flash openwrt-mediatek-mt7622-linksys_e8450-ubi-initramfs-recovery-installer.itb. Ie. make sure to grab that file and not just the *recovery.bin (without the word installer in it) as that is not enough.

this is what I did on August 28 at 10:09 pm is this the file that I had downloaded?

Yes, that's the right file and also the logs look like it's all fine. What exactly is not working?

sorry it's my fault, I had the same ssid name as my friend is by putting it to verify the password was not asked to me, I am on macbook and we must deactivate the wifi and reactivate it for 'he asks for a wifi code again otherwise a bar is displayed like the one

I saw your post about wifi clients not able to communicate with each other. Is that resolved now?

Hello, I'm running these UBI builds on two identical E8450 devices. Unfortunately, I am having some trouble with one of them (calling it Linksys0135) compared with the other one (calling it Linksys1338).

Linksys0135 is running as my router/gateway/AP on 192.168.1.1, Linksys1338 is running as an AP on 192.168.1.2 - otherwise identical configurations as regards wireless.

The issue was that Linksys0135 would rarely - happened with a MTBF of perhaps a few days - crash (?) and then reboot into the recovery mode build (all configurations gone, 5ghz radio not present). From there I would try to flash the sysupgrade, but that would not work initially - I would also try to flash the recovery-installer, but that would also fail. By failure I mean that uploading the file works, and the process starts, but once the router reboots, the image was not flashed. The only way I got the image to "stick" was to upload, flash, wait for reboot, and then physically power cycle with a cold boot - then the router would boot with the correct build-number and sysupgrade applied.

For now, I think I have managed to flash both the recovery-installer and sysupgrade from a functioning state, and verified that the build-number of both matches as expected. I will monitor the situation and will have the dmesg and hexdump outputs ready (both pre-crash, running recovery build, and post-restore) in case it happens again. Any other diagnostic outputs that might help to narrow down the issue?

EDIT: I am currently running a snapshot build built with the 0.5.3 installer, with both images flashed in sequence. But Linksys0135 did exhibit the reboots into "recovery" with the 0.5.2 release images as well.

Sounds like something crashes, and after that you have the crash logs in ram pstore that survives warm reboot.

Daniel's current UBI version boot logic is that the router goes to the recovery mode at reboot if there are those pstore files.

You need either coldboot/poweroff, or manually delete the files. See the developer's comment earlier in this thread starting at

The router going into the recovery mode with pstore files is rather unique, so this feature can easily cause surprises....

Aha, that explains the observed behavior very well! I will know to look out for the crash logs next time then, and will post them if I can recover them from /sys/fs/pstore .. Thank you for the explanation!

No it's not yet resolved. I am still facing issues with WiFi client to client communication and it's not just with Android as I mentioned before it's with almost all wifi clients.

Hi Daniel, tried to install the kmod you mentioned, I have an incompatible kernel version for the opkg package apparently, and I cant modprobe it. I have tried multiple times to reflash your 0.5.3 release and even downgrade to 0.5.2 using the instructions flash ie force-flash xxx-ubi-initramfs-recovery-installer.itb for that version, followed by flashing the xxx-ubi-initramfs-squashfs-sysupgrade.itb for that version. Both via the Luci interface and cli with -F -n flags. It always comes back after reboot with the currently flashed version which is my snapshot upgrade on top of virgin stock fw->0.5.3 ---SNAPSHOT r17443-90e167abaa. Every flash seems to come back to the current build with erased config (-n switch). I'm wondering if this symptom means that the flashing is unsuccessful and it reverts back or to the second fw? I dont have a serial cable hooked up to see the full output of CLI sysupgrade, but the first few lines look successful before dropbear/ssh die and my console session ends.

@base0010 are you sure you have used the right file and have downloaded the binary from github or built yourself?

There is no point in downgrading the installer to v0.5.2, though it also doesn't hurt or change anything of v0.5.3 has already been installed before (because v0.5.3 applies a 1-time fix for the factory ECC data, downgrading won't revert that).

If a flashed firmware doesn't come up (but rather the recovery firmware comes up instead) this is usually because the flashed file has been corrupted. Please make sure all the files you are using are the correct size and hash.
If the system keeps booting into recovery a cause can also be that there has previously been a kernel crash and crashlogs have not been cleared yet. Check if you see any files in /sys/fs/pstore/ and if so, take a look at them (maybe post them here) and delete them as the flashed firmware will only be loaded if pstore is empty.

To whom it may concern, I've updated the upgrade server to use more differentiated caching should resolve any further checksum issues with auc. Thanks for reporting the issues earlier!
