Belkin RT3200/Linksys E8450 WiFi AX discussion

Hi Daniel, tried to install the kmod you mentioned, I have an incompatible kernel version for the opkg package apparently, and I cant modprobe it. I have tried multiple times to reflash your 0.5.3 release and even downgrade to 0.5.2 using the instructions flash ie force-flash xxx-ubi-initramfs-recovery-installer.itb for that version, followed by flashing the xxx-ubi-initramfs-squashfs-sysupgrade.itb for that version. Both via the Luci interface and cli with -F -n flags. It always comes back after reboot with the currently flashed version which is my snapshot upgrade on top of virgin stock fw->0.5.3 ---SNAPSHOT r17443-90e167abaa. Every flash seems to come back to the current build with erased config (-n switch). I'm wondering if this symptom means that the flashing is unsuccessful and it reverts back or to the second fw? I dont have a serial cable hooked up to see the full output of CLI sysupgrade, but the first few lines look successful before dropbear/ssh die and my console session ends.

@base0010 are you sure you have used the right file and have downloaded the binary from github or built yourself?

There is no point in downgrading the installer to v0.5.2, though it also doesn't hurt or change anything of v0.5.3 has already been installed before (because v0.5.3 applies a 1-time fix for the factory ECC data, downgrading won't revert that).

If a flashed firmware doesn't come up (but rather the recovery firmware comes up instead) this is usually because the flashed file has been corrupted. Please make sure all the files you are using are the correct size and hash.
If the system keeps booting into recovery a cause can also be that there has previously been a kernel crash and crashlogs have not been cleared yet. Check if you see any files in /sys/fs/pstore/ and if so, take a look at them (maybe post them here) and delete them as the flashed firmware will only be loaded if pstore is empty.

To whom it may concern, I've updated the upgrade server to use more differentiated caching should resolve any further checksum issues with auc. Thanks for reporting the issues earlier!

Can you open an issue on MT76 repo?

Do I need to open a bug report for MT76 for the snapshot releases? Sorry I haven't done that before, can you tell me where I need to open the issue.

I am running the 0.5.3 version of the recovery installer.

Likely that has no relation to the WiFi driver crash, which has surfaced much earlier than the new flash driver.

Nice debugging in that GitHub issue ticket that you linked. Sounds like the culprit is found, but no patch had yet been made/merged.

r17469-9e9057f416 seems stable on my RT3200. Using 2.4Ghz (40Mhz) + 5Ghz (80Mhz) and WireGuard. All works fine. Wi-Fi coverage seems comparable to Asus RT-AX86u.

I am really struggling with something. What is the easiest way to add 'rclone' having flashed the latest snapshot? Could the 'rclone' package possibly be added to future snapshots please? Very useful package! Any help much appreciated.

No Julien, I'm still trying to identify the issue. To clarify, I don't have any problem with android devices connecting to wifi, but the problem is with communication between WiFi devices (and wired devices - started seeing recently)

The issues seems to be not only related to wifi but also there are some issues in communication between wired and wireless. Sometimes there will be connectivity at other times there won't be any connectivity. With wired if I manually add the ARP entry of the WiFi device then I can communicate with them, so it something with ARP being blocked by the Openwrt AP.

Ok, it's the xiaomi box that doesn't connect to wifi and if I put my classic livebox it connects directly

I tried this but still have issues with client to client or host to host communication (both wired and wireless). I don't think it's something related to WPA2 or 802.11w.
