Asus Lyra Mini MAP-AC1300 (vs MAP-AC2200)

Hello, I have a set of 4 Lyra Mini Nodes (MAP-AC1300). I have found that the MAP-AC2200 has openwrt support but looking at the hardware specs I do not see a lot of difference with its AC1300 brother except for the limited storage (32 vs 128MB).

Would it be a good idea to open up one device and see how to get openWRT on it?

I haven´t found any post here on the MAP-AC1300, is there any problem with the hardware which makes it a no-go? (radio, limited storage, cpu,...?)

It would be a nice thing to have my RT-AC88U with 4 nodes in mesh soon

Grtz,
Tom

Qualcomm according to https://fccid.io/MSQ-RTACBV00/, should be supportable.

Looks like a bog standard ipq4018 device with 32 MB flash and 256 MB RAM. While it shouldn't be too difficult to get it ported, someone with the hardware on their desk (you?) will have to spend the efforts to actually do it. As you noticed, flash is different (32 MB spi-nor vs 128 MB NAND on the map-ac2200). Judging from the blurry FCC images, the serial console appears to be accessible (although the header is probably unpopulated, so soldering required). Probably not too much family resemblance with the map-ac2200 on the inside.

OK, I will open one of my devices and see what I can find. Any other thread or github issue I can follow to assist me in the hardware hacking?

you can probably find a similar device, hw wise, using https://openwrt.org/toh/views/toh_extended_all

then look up the git commit.

Hello @frollic, i have opened one of my 4 Lyra mini's and they indeed look like its bigger brother MAP-AC2200.

Can I just try to install the images of those simular devices on my MAP-AC1300? Or should I build seperate images on my localhost and try with those?
I also want to start a hardware info page for this device but don't have the permissions yet.

no you can't

take a look at zyxel nbg 6617 it should be similar, do not flash that too.

Hello @anon4457646,

Offcourse is would not have flashed the ac2200 image but one of these similar devices as said before:

Hardware with 32MB flash and IPQ4018 cpu

EDIT: Hmmmz, looks like the parsed url does not open with the querystring in the browser... It's a filter for 32MB flash and the IPQ4018 cpu. The mensioned NBG6617 is in the list. Will try tonight at home.

if you paste it using the chain (= link) button in the message window, it works.

Not really, the url gets urlencoded also after the ?, the '+' should stay and not get a '%2B'.

Classic problem after posting/getting form data in application/x-www-form-urlencoded.

But anyway, I will post the results of 'installing' (and not bricking) my WAP-AC1300 tonight

works for me

Just to be explicit, while those similar devices can be used for reference, you can't flash them either. You do need serial console access, to try tftpbooting a similar initramfs image and work up from there. flashing can only happen (for the first time) at the very end of your development journey, when you have sorted 95% of the required things (most importantly the flash setup and -partitioning, which will differ between vendors and models).

tl;dr: do not flash anything!

Aha ok thanks, I think it has been since my first WRT54G that I didn't use minicom anymore. Lets see if I found some jtag or pins

Pretty sure, it's gonna work out 'fast': the J19 is there.
Not sure if I still have a JTAG to usb converter. Let's search online for the fastest delivery.

Hi

Found this topic and I did get bit further with my MAP-AC1300.

So this is what I have ahcived at this point:

.dts file's io numbers are not validated and I'm not sure how to do it? Can it be done trough asus stock software?

I can't get make world to go trough, so maybe some syntax errors too.

Allso ath10 board file creation is mystery to me. Is it needed as other Asus with same wifi card seems to share same calibration filesystem.

Is there something I could do to help, to test,... ? I have 1 device left that I do not use (yet)

I would appreciate help, but it is hard as I don't even know how to proceed

I assume it is would be trivial to find correct io pins if I know where to find. Probably easiest way to find it out would contact someone who made other asus to work with openwrt. Like: https://git.openwrt.org/?p=openwrt/openwrt.git;a=commit;h=87c42101cfb001b4bd418d1201fa4d8c822dc77b

Had some more time and found few typos. And i now have a booting OpenWrt in my Lyra Mini.
I did some quess work and i have working led atleast

Have to do some more reseach as what i can see spi is not working correctly even i2c is?
