Tested iperf3 from LAN to WAN routing performance, speed is pretty stable around 930Mbps, and the CPU looks pretty idle as well.

With the custom NSS commits it adds on a hash to the end of the kernel version. This has makes it a “different” kernel version and “incompatible” with additional kmods.

The cleanest way is to build in all the kmods you need when you are building the firmware from scratch.

What does iperf look like without offloading (just for comparison on this device)?

On the official 22.03_rc1 image (no NSS), if I turn on Packet Steering (packet steering across all CPUs. May help or hinder network speed), the iperf performance is about 930Mb/s. However, its dual-core CPU will both have 80% to 100% load, which will lead to a very poor Wi-Fi or VPN performance. If I do iperf over Wi-Fi 5Ghz 80Mhz channel (pure WPA3-SAE encryption), it will achieve 300-400Mb/s using a 2:2:2 client (which also supports 80Mhz channel width), but the CPU will have 70% load on one core and 30% load on the other core.

I want to buy this device for AP but I have a question. Why is this device firmware comes with ath10k-ct instead of ath10k wlan driver? Seems likes very similar device r7800 comes with ath10k. Is ...-ct one better or worse?

And are you happy with this device? Would you recommend me to buy?

OpenWrt defaults to ath10k-ct for all devices on all targets, the rac2v1k and the r7800 aren't any different in this regard.

Im talking about the IPQ setenvs, the flash size is 265MB in this one for example, and dont know about the partitions. The original fw seems to boot with bootipq..

I tried @lmore377 SAC2V1K method2 (given the reduced flash size), but got an error

What makes you believe that this device had anything (at all) in common with the ipq8065 ones discussed in this thread? Of course it does not work (at least SOC (ipq8072a) and wireless (qcn5024+qcn5054) will be different) - and be happy that it failed early, before it had a chance to brick your hardware.

My bad. The wish to covert this device to Openwrt made me skip the basic soc check, I just went on based on the askey/spectrum origins and the relative product line. I will be more careful and continue to learn.

For now it seems this model is not widespread, and not a target to conquer by the dev team.

Just a tip for anyone having reliability issues (mainly unexplainable reboots) it could be that the CPU and maybe other chips just straight up aren't soldered down properly and need to be reflowed. These routers don't exactly have the best QC it seems. I pulled off the CPU (with a lot of force) and there were a lot of perfectly smooth solder balls under it. On a slightly related note, if your router is hard bricked (maybe even completely missing the CPU lmao) you can still use it as a 5 port unmanaged switch by putting a solder bridge on C197 to force the switch chip to power on.

Thanks for the tip. So far so good with mine. I did find antennas loose from their mounts inside one I had to take apart to flash (rubber cement - do your duty!), but the boards looked OK and no random issues yet.

I don't doubt QC standards may have been lowered. The cable company probably squeezed every dollar out of their mass quantity orders for these. Their tall narrow form factor lending itself to being knocked over, and cable ISP subscribers getting free replacements when their last one "mysteriously" breaks probably do not help either :wink:

Interesting and funny stuff ahahahah you probably set a switch strap. Wonder how you discovered that.

I didn't really care what happened to the rest of the router so I just ran a flathead screwdriver over the solder pads for the CPU until the Ethernet ports lit up and narrowed it down from there

Hi I have a new RAC2V1S broadcom version that I can donate if it helps here.

RAC2V1S is completely different hardware from this router (RAC2V1K is Qualcomm based) and Broadcom based routers aren't supported well by openwrt in the first place because of their lack of open sourced firmware and drivers
