Adding Support for TP-Link Archer BE805

Let’s get the ball rolling on Wi-Fi 7! This looks to be the first MT7988 board on the market, at least from the shoddy FCCID photos. MT7988 support appears to have already landed in main branch.

Will add detailed hardware specs as they become available. Looks like this device will be released soon.

I hope its ok to bring up an old question ? Did someone actually take a look at the Mediatek based Archer BE805 ? (not to be confused with the Archer BE800 that uses Qualcomm)

I already have the Banana Pi BPi-R4 with Wifi7 but am still curious about this one that is based on the same platform - it even seems to have an unused pinout on the motherboard (?)

Supporting this expensive router is good but mid range routers actually the router people actually buy

BE230 is Broadcom - https://fccid.io/2BCGWBE230.

I agree and the BE805 was expensive when it came - now its being sold out and can be found at reasonable prices, but it is still more than your average router.

However, the BE805 uses a well-known platform that already has OpenWRT Wifi7 support and it would probably only take a small amount of effort to support it - if it is possible to connect it.

I am just wondering if anyone have had access to one to see if it is possible.

Yes and if someone looking for a router for that much price and install openwrt they will go for custom configuration.
But yes if you get a 2nd hand device for a lower price that make sense to have it with openwrt.

What about be400

Open it up, find out the hw it uses.

Since the BE400 has many similarities to the BE230 it would be a fair assumption that they share the same chip manufacture - review

One should also be aware that lower priced wifi7 routers as these only have 2.4GHz and 5GHz dual band.

The Wifi6E standard required tri-band with a 6GHz radio, but the Wifi7 standard does not.

Bumping this old thread, since the BE400 FCC photos have now been published.

It's Broadcom indeed.

Hi all, happy 1st time OpenWrt user here, wanted to bump this thread for the original topic/device and +1 interest in this BE805 router -- wondering if anyone thought this was or wasn't going to get support given the 7988AV chipset it shares with the already-supported wifi7 SDG-8733/4..?

Just got gigabit fiber for the 1st time and looking to get a new OpenWrt router with, like, 5-10 years of future relevance, and I really like the 10G WAN + 10G LAN for the price of this option. I think certain users :man_raising_hand: like to pay up for good high-spec hardware with a long runway that can be trusted for a long time, fwiw.

Someone need to buy the hw, and add the support.

Asus ZenWiFi BT8 using the same SoC is also supported.

I def wouldn't buy a 10Gbit capable device today, to be able to upgrade in 5 years...

Future proofing hw purchases is seldom a good idea, money wise.

I've had the option to upgrade my connection from 1/1 to 10/10 (paying $10-$15 extra per mo) for the last 10 years, I still can't think of reasons enough for doing it.

I still find this router interesting - if you live in the us you can get it for the same price as a BT8

Who would be an official developer that could take this on if i bought one and had it shipped to them and they return it to me once it's stable? I read a lot of the Asus Zenwifi BT8 thread, seemed like @blogic and @daniel might be good candidates? :man_shrugging:t2:

It's for whoever to pick up, and I don't know if they're interested in donations. Plus, the device might get bricked in the process, making you lose whatever you paid for it.

BE805 now has firmware source available: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/download/archer-be805/#GPL-Code

@Pulver have you seen this offer here?

That depends on what you mean is "here"

It was available in Europe when it was new, but the pricetag was over 1000$

Now it is removed from the american Amazon shop too so I think its hard to buy it new anywhere.

Oops, by here  I meant this thread and I was referencing @dscambik0214 ‘s offer above. The price got reduced at costco.com from whopping starting price of USD 400.00 to USD 239.99 (probably wrong start price)
