Adding OpenWrt support for Zyxel EX5601-T0

On the top of your window you will see it asks you to select a folder to store the file in, make a
new folder somewhere and choose it. It will also indicate DevTools requests full access to that
folder, so hit Allow

If still not working, try another browser.
The Chromium browsers all worked for me. (Microsoft Edge, Opera)

Thanks! I completely missed that! You've just helped me flash mine without serial.

I've previously flashed 2 units with serial, but I bought one extra for testing the no-serial method and other testing purposes. With great succes I might add!

I'm really having a blast with these routers.

For the record:
I have indeed used Google Chrome under MacOS. When clicking Override content, there's a drop down menu with some buttons at the top of the browser. You'll have to select a directory to which the browser can save an overridden app.maintenance.js. Afterwards, it asks you to allow accessing the selected directory, which you should definitely and explicitly Allow.

After that, find any occurrence of findAndRemove, and remove the contents of the quotes behind "Name", , so it looks like "Name", ""), in stead of something like "Name", "SSH"), or "Name", "FTP"),.

The firmware has basically been modified so it won't show any occurrence of FTP, TELNET, SSH and SNMP. By removing the contents between the quotes, it won't find anything to remove from the interface.

Happy hacking everyone!

@thehybrid1337 hello, is there any chance to do the above operations starting from openwrt ubootmod layout without using serial? thanks

I tried on a T-56 and this worked.
However on a second one, I am 3 days now and can't make it work. I have specified folders, etc, but still no luck in this step. I have tried EDGE and Google Chrome too. Still nothing.
Firefox also does not have the same layout.

@thehybrid1337 perhaps we need a more robust solution in this step, if it exists, otherwise several T-56s are at the risk of being thrown out of windows

UPDATE: I downloaded a separate, portable version of Chrome, retried the steps, defined the local folder and allowed access when asked and it finally worked!

Do i have to switch from mtd5 to mtd6. its working on mtd5 now. What are the benifits to switch?

Just in case anyone wondered what firmware versions wifilinks.nl currently ships: I ordered 2 T-56 on May 1st, both came with V5.70(ACEA.0)T56C_b8_1108 out of the box.

//Edit: just flashed both devices using the guide from April 4th. Thank you very much! Two small hints for Linux users:

  1. tftp-hba worked fine as TFTP server. Just installed it, placed the file in /srv/tftp and started the systemd service, worked.
  2. If you're using OpenSSH 9 or later, scp will fail with error message /usr/libexec/sftp-server: not found. OpenWRT uses Dropbear, which relies on the legacy protocol, so use scp -O flag.

I was recommend to buy this router to substitute my belkin RT3200.

It seems a great router for the price. It even has voIP and phone ports.
But seems not so easy to flash openWRT in it.
It would like to flash it without using the serial port.
But it seems that routers with some new firmware in it cannot be flashed.

How may I know it the router can be flashed or not before buying?

Any other place to buy it besides WifiLinks in netherlands?

Is it possible with this router and openWRT to use voIP and connect an analog phone to one of its phone jackets?

It would be great to get voIP in it and be able to use my current analog phones getting rid completly of my ISP router.

It does, but they don't work..

Today, all routers can still be flashed, AFAIK.

Read https://openwrt.org/toh/zyxel/t-56, it answers most of your questions.

There, in the link about flashing without serial port, is where I read that some 5.70 versions can brick your device when flashing not using the serial port if something goes wrong.

I know, I put together most of that stuff (even though it wasn't me who came up with it).

0122 got pulled back, the new one isn't out.

Read the post above your oldest post in this thread.

So if I buy a router it is supposed to not come with 0122 version if it has been retired.
Thank you.

You can always ask the seller ?

Will try, I have done but if it is a reseller with many brands I don't expect him to know it.

I will post wifilinks answer.

I don't think you can know which firmware is installed, without turning the device on. Neither on the device, nor on the box are any sort of information about manufacturing date, firmware version and so on. You need to power up the device and login to the router to get these information. I highly suspect any retailer will go through these troubles, but there is no harm in asking.

…and be aware that wifilinks/ odido actively wants to make installing OpenWrt impossible, as soon as they can (and they already killed quite a few routers of their own customers' routers, running their own firmware, in their first attempt), so what holds true today, may be different in the shipment you receive tomorrow (and the longer you wait, your odds only become worse - and if you receive one, don't connect it to the internet before installing OpenWrt, to prevent it from auto-updating).

It's great hardware, I should have bought one last December (I kick myself for not doing so) - today, I wouldn't take the risk (and the increased price, the price is still good for the hardware, but unfortunately I still know what they did cost in winter).

Thank you.

Me too think that they are not going to know the version delivered.

I don't look back for the price it could have in the past, everything is getting high in price.

The price of the device is quite good.

What is not clear for me is wether itcomes with an appropriate firmware 0122 you can downgrade it to a previous firmware or you still can install openwrt without bricking it and only gets bricked if something goes wrong in the upgrade like a power outage.

Any other device with similar capacities?

I need it able to perform 600 Mbps with wireguard and good WiFi 6. Phone connection will be welcome too.

Or anyone selling it upgraded to openwrt due to buying a more recent device.

gl-mt6000 for 2-3 times as much, that's why its price is still good (but only until they roll out the new firmware version).

the ones listed in https://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/targets/mediatek/filogic/

you've already been told this, there's currently nothing better out there, unless you go for SBC or x86.

Just take the chance i bought three from different sellers on www.marktplaats.nl, it's from private sellers . (10-15 euro a piece)
