Sadly, I have no information about the Linksys dual FW logic
This is what the partition layout looks like in OEM firmware:
and after install OpenWrt:

partition is used for saving information about boot count. After 3 unsuccessful boots partitions are switched.
In the OEM firmware we have only one partition (syscfg
) where changes are saved.
After installing OpenWrt on both partitions we have two separate rootfs_data
volumes.
Ok, so they are using one partition as a big overlay.
But I am failing to see what is the issue with OpenWrt except for the smaller space?
If we are currently on partition1 and we are doing sysupgrade
on partition2 with keeping the configuration (without -n
option) should we synchronize rootfs_data
between two separate ubi volumes?
No, rootfs_data
is the upperdir for overlayfs and should not be synced, it should just be wiped during sysupgrade.
Config data is packaged during sysupgrade and appended so it gets restored on first boot
Currently, it works like this: if I configure WiFi and then upgrade, this WiFi configuration is not there after the restart.

I can upstream the missing SPI node, that is not an issue.
But, why do you need this new sysupgrade option?
You can control everything from the stage2 calls being made in platform.sh
I just want to be able to do upgrade on currently booted partition.

I have found that the regulatory domain code is in the 4 different places:
It can be edited and set to 0x0000
. After that change we are able to change country.
I don't know how to do the same change in the case of QCA9984. Regulatory domain code is only in one place but there is also some kind of checksum:

How are things working on the MX5300? I see that the pull request merged back in Feb.
The wiki page for it is still the template though. Most of the info to fill it in is available. Unfortunately, I don't have an Openwrt wiki account.
For anyone desiring to get the MX5300, the two pack refurb MX10600, is $130 at Woot currently. That's a pretty good price to get a 4x4 AX 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radios plus a bonux 4x4 5GHz ac radio. Since Linksys seems to have stopped updating the oem firmware back in 2022, the responsible thing would be to run OpenWRT on it.
I'm thinking of getting one. The oem firmware requires an app to setup. Can I load OpenWRT without ever setting up their app?
