802.11s configuration

Hi all,
Looking for some assistance with my configuration. I have two devices: 1 tri-band router and 1 dual band dumb ap both set up with openwrt and mesh 802.11s. It seems to me that the mesh backhaul is set up correctly and running, but i have no connectivity when a device connects to the 2.4 band of the dumb ap.

I have the mesh bridged with br-lan on both devices.

Also, when a client connects, it fubars the AP to the point where i lose the ability the device wirelessly to administer it. I am able to ping to the outside world and other devices on the subnet from the AP, but once a client connects, i lose ALL of that.

Everything bridged into LAN makes this a conventional main router --- dumb AP network, except that the link between the two is by mesh radio instead of by wire.

The AP must have the DHCP server turned off so that clients don't get conflicting configuration. When a client connects to the AP its DHCP request will go through the mesh to the main router and be answered from there.

Thanks for your reply.. in my current configuration i have disabled both dnsmasq and firewall on the AP.

On the dumb AP everything is fine, until a client connects to the dumb AP.. currently everything looks good:
