802.11ax Routers

There is already ath12k driver to support 802.11be devices.

IMHO too early to smile.

Haven't been following the 802.11ax development much lately, which router works best and is easiest to flash with OpenWRT currently?
The R7800 is so good I'm actually considering buying a second one to keep as a spare, but if there's a matching "WiFi 6" router I might buy that instead.

Linksys E8450 / Belkin RT3200

(I have the RT3200 variant that is better available in Europe than E8450)

Ps.
If you consider a copy of the old R7800, it is not available any more, but has an almost identical younger sister XR500. (double flash and no eSata, if I remember right)

None of those AX routers seems to be available anywhere, they are not even listed.

?????

E.g. RT3200 is currently available at Amazon for 78 pounds. (at the UK site, but not visible on your local Swedish Amazon site)

The WAX202 is available in Sweden, but is cheaper if bought from Germany.

I checked the Swedish site

Yeah, the availablity has been sporadic, and for some reason better in UK than in the EU area. (the E8450 has not been in EU at all, I think. Possibly for OEM firmware & GDPR reasons, or something)

(I bought the RT3200 UK version last year and it has the also EU eletricity plug.)

It's not in stock right now though

Funny. For me it is:

The 1.8 gbps version is available but not the 3.2 gbps version. Odd.

it's available, but the UK seller won't ship it to SE, he doesn't have any issues shipping it to US though, weird ...

@shelterx
Here's a guy selling 2 of these.

Out of stock here:

They had them at £50.

They probably wouldn't ship to EU anyway, most companies stopped doing it after brexit.

If you don't need USB port and multi Gigabit ports, I think Redmi AX6000 is one of the bests.

Indeed, most of the routers has a big design failures due the antennas ( except netgears nighthawk, which hides antennas really good.) But this router has really good design. This one reminds me Knight Rider car somehow.

Redmi AX6000 has only 4 antennas (each antenna hides 2 of them inside). Looks like muscled router for heavy tasks. And more importantly has MTK Filogic 830 which has enough CPU power for the most tasks + a good driver support for WiFi.

The device has been rooted recently and OpenWRT support is about to come. Indeed ETH,WiFi and NAND working from now but ledbar. And there could be some issues I believe gonna fixed under some week.

It has 128MB flash and whopping 512MB RAM. OFDMA, MU-MIMO...
Well, it's not a cheap one. You can have it for ~$100 from AliExpress.

If you find Xiaomi AX6000 design disgusting and wanna similar device, this is what you are searching for. I wish it has USB too but... Every beautiful thing has a some defects this days...

No multi gigabit uplink, you're capped at 1gbit.

WRX36 has 2.5Gbit Ethernet and USB for the same price (at least in US) as Redmi AX6000 but it's using dual-band patch antennas.

Btw, how is that AX3600 is 3.6Gbit and AX6000 is 6Gbit combined if the only difference is 2 x 2 vs 4 x 4 MIMO at 2.4GHz?

Those vendor calculations have always been bull^w'innovative' and 'detached from the truth'.

I think I have an answer to this: only 2 x 2 MIMO is supported @160Hz. Here's output from my ax3600 router:
