2.4Ghz Flaky - TP-Link WDR3600 v1.2 (24.10.0)

Greetings,

Firmware: OpenWRT 24.10.0 (and numerous earlier versions since new.)

One: 2.4 & 5Ghz - 'No worries.' - Wireless works for days/weeks, without a reboot.
Two: 5Ghz Only - 'No worries.' - Wireless works for days/weeks, without a reboot.
Three: 2.4Ghz Only - 'Always problems.' - Wireless works a few days, then intermittent, then reboot required (various means.)

I choose to use 2.4Ghz only, and 'prefer' to not also use 5Ghz. However, using 2.4Ghz alone is quite annoying, as sometimes the wireless will start working again (for a while), while at others it requires a full reboot (via intermittent access), or even requires being rebooted via ethernet. Both frequencies are set to US format, and I've tried various channels, with the same results, since it was purchased new (though now quite old.)

Before posting, I noticed that there are other similar 'incidents' with this identical router. But seemingly, no real solutions, that I see?

Easiest of course, is to throw it out and replace. But that's really no answer, so I'm hoping that this concern, has a reasonable (even idiot-proof) answer. Thinking, can it really be so strange?

It's an 'extremely' simple home AP setup (wired to modem), with no odd settings at all. And I'm super happy to provide any information that's wanted/needed (logs, etc.), as long as step-by-step instructions are given, because otherwise, I simply may not be savvy enough, to be of genuine assistance.

Thanks, for your help!

Also, please paste the system log (in the same format as the cat calls) showing the radio dropping out (it will be close to the end of the log) and the 10 lines above it.
Redact any MACs.

We can't tell, for sure, what caused the drop without the log.

Hello LRD,

Thanks you for replying, and I understand you need specific info. from me, to assist in finding out where the WiFI is dropping.

Apologies, as I only use LuCi, so I don't have any idea how to do SSH, and the remove the other sensitive things you're suggesting (though no doubt it's all dead simple.) I'll try to get back with you...and sorry...again.

Hello LilRedDog,

After reading your reply post, I logged into the forum and saw the perhaps automated notice quoted below. I don't understand what any of that means either, except a general kind of 'don't go there.' So I guess that's probably better for everyone, and I'm sorry.

It said, " There are known intermittent issues generating custom images using the online image generator (firmware selector and sysupgrade servers). This affects Attended Sysupgrade (ASU), OWUT (OpenWrt Upgrade Tool), and the firmware-selector custom image tool. See this thread for more details.

Please do not open new threads on this topic as it has already been discussed in numerous threads (with the same answers each time)."

You need not worry about the warning.

Follow the tutorial for ssh so you can post the outputs.

You can copy and paste the system log that shows the drop just use the </> to clean it up.

@LilRedDog

I've disconnected 5Ghz since last communicating (it was left on, necessarily, because that was the only way to not lose/reduce Wi-Fi every 'several' days, and now I have to wait until the problem recurs.) When it does, I will do my best to follow your instructions.

Thank you so much for being patient,

Earth

My apologies, as the intermittent 2.4Ghz Wi-FI 'only' problem (without accompanying 5Ghz), that I inquired about, has simply not recurred, though it has been that way very consistently...for years...and over numerous firmware updates.

Whether it does or does not happen again, at this point I'm completely embarrassed to bring it to attention, so I promise not to do that.

Mods: If anyone would like to remove this thread entirely, for my part at least, please feel free to do so. And I offer my sincere apologies, to anyone's time affected.

Thanks, and best...

It harms nothing to leave the thread here until you get the issue again.

Just let is fade and reply to it when there is something to add.
