Topic: wl-hdd and the bridged interfaces

Hi!

I have installed OpenWRT on my WL-HDD and now I want to give it access to the internet.
But to do so I must set it to wlan-client mode.

The problem is that LAN and WLAN interfaces are bridged by default.
When I break the configuration I risk to lose access to the wl-hdd. Are these NVRAM-variables set back whan i enter failsafe-mode? Or can I trash my device afterwards?

Any idea?

no idea? :-(

Re: wl-hdd and the bridged interfaces

You can always flash the original ASUS firware, it will restore the settings.

You can flash in Restoration Mode with the Firwmare Restoration Tool.

I have broken the bridge here and used a WL-HDD as router without problems.

I cannot get in restoration mode (blinking led) any more after I flashed openwrt. OpenWRT runs stable, but is there a chance to get in restauration mode again?

Re: wl-hdd and the bridged interfaces

Restoration mode is part of the bootloader, not the firmware. Unplug from power, hold reset and connect power. Then it should start slow flashing the LED.

Something like this should split the interfaces so that the RJ45 connector is WAN and the wireless is LAN btw :

nvram set wan_device=eth1
nvram set wan_proto=dhcp
nvram set wan_ifname=eth1
nvram set wan_netmask=255.255.255.0
nvram set lan_gateway=192.168.1.1
nvram set lan_netmask=255.255.255.0
nvram set lan_ifnames=eth2
nvram set lan_ipaddr=192.168.1.1
nvram set lan_proto=static
nvram set lan_ifname=br0
nvram commit
