Is the 8197 still a Lexra core or a true MIPS?

Still Lexra core RLX5281 CPU..

Have not been able to find the difference between RTL8197DL and RTL8197D.

hi all/ Roman,

I recently came across this specific post in regard on rtl8196c device, there are many routers/repeaters running on this chip in the market but not enough firmware support on many infamous branded devices. I searched around on the web for weeks and could not find any firmware for it(factory does not offer any updates).

I have an anker 300M WIFI repeater/router, the device works quiet stable but I found the firmware in it is kinda old and the setting is very limited. Im wonder if anyone has similar firmware devices which I can try? Im somewhat novices on Linux and android but do not mind to try and share experiences. Below are the details on my Anker repeater. Thanks in advance for anyone can share some info.

Anker 66ANWNWR-WA 300M repeater/rounter
CPU RTL-8196C
RAM EM639105TS-6G(16MB)
ROM MX25L3206E(4MB)
WIFI RTL-8192CE

It has reset button, wps button, ap/repeater/clint switch.

Hello, guys!

I opened up a Multilaser RE073. Probably Totolink N150RH ou Zioncom IP04159E re-branded. The external resemblance for the Totolink is unquestionable.

It was night and I could not do a better visual inspection. I'll open it again and take better pictures.

Info

Ethernet: It is covered by a heat sink
Wifi: RTL8188RE
Filter: H7201DG
Flash: ?
RAM: Winbond W9812G6JH-6 (16 MB)
Power supply: 12 V 1000 mA
Serial: I need help to determine it
Bootloader: I need help to determine it

nmap -P0 -O

OS details: Linux 2.4.9 - 2.4.18 (likely embedded)

klogd

BusyBox v1.1.3 (2012.06.25)
RTL8192C/RTL8188C driver version 1.4 (2010-08-11)

Note: "RTL8188C" is not the RTL8188RE which is soldered!

Questions

1) Is there some relation with the RTL8196C port?

2) Could someone here share photos of some of these routers?

Greeting.
Can you get openwrt firmware in jnr3000?

Hi guys. I have developed a firmware for router RE300R4-2T2R-V8. Compilling seems ok but, doesn't work. Do not flash!! This router have 4MB of Flash and 16 of RAM.

Hi guys. I have developed a firmware for router RE300R4-2T2R-V8. Compilling seems ok but, doesn't work. Do not flash!! This router have 4MB of Flash and 16 of RAM.

Is there any chances to look at your sources?
I have some success on building rlx4181 toolchain based on 4.8.1 gcc and 2.23.1 binutils. Tested on rtl8196c.
Can test your build on it 4/32M

Hello, friends, i have netis wf-2419e router, CPU is RTL8196e, I need to make it work with OpenWRT. I have already build firmware with realtek sdk, but how I can flash it? I have 4Mb flash and 16Mb ram.

Any progress maestrodan?

I have buyed a router+repeater AC750W or UNT-750 on Amazon.

Chip: RTL8881AN+8192ER
Flash: 4MB
SDRAM: DDR2 32MB

amazon.it/gp/product/B073JHDKCM/

Where i can fund a rom for RTL8881AN+8192ER of less of 4MB? i found a only link for a 4.4MB build for that chip that i cant obviusely use in 4MB flash.

Hello,

I have a Trendnet TEW-731br v3, i'm trying to replace the stock firmware with something else that could allow me to pass an option to the dhcp client (vendor_class_id).
I have successfully build openwrt for realtek 8196e + 8192er (sourceforge.net/projects/rtl819x/).
but i can't get openwrt to be flashed with tftp method, there is a tftp server on 192.168.1.6 that listen when the router start, sending the file with curl -T works but when the router reboot this is still with the stock firmware.

I have started to take a look at the serial connection, the following is the boot log with the stock firmware. For now that's all that I have.

I also have similar device its D-Link DIR 605L same spec, could you share your firmware ? And did you tried to boot it from RAM? Just hit "ESC" after power on and you will be presented with Realtek CLI

@vido

There are two of the firmwares I have build, they don't contain web ui.

Yes I have tried to interrupt the boot process but that did not work, maybe my pins were not all very well soldered.

That's great tnx a lot, Im looking forward to boot them. I downloaded rtl819x SDK from link you provided but I cant get menuconfig to show up Im getting

Error opening terminal: xterm-256color.
Makefile:111: recipe for target 'menuconfig' failed
make: *** [menuconfig] Error 1

What version of linux do you use ? And did you use rtl819x-SDK-v3.4.9.3-full-package-2.tar.gz ?

I use rtk_openwrtSDK_v2.5 20160905, I'm running a 4.14 kernel, gcc 5.3.0, binutils 2.28 and glibc 2.26, fbdev without X, that's not a distribution. You can use make defconfig_rtl8196e, maybe try to modify the TERM envvar (export TERM=xterm).

Great, tnx a lot smile In good health

So I did compile firmware but Im missing IPCONFIG on my boot loader, I did tried 192.168.1.6 but that did not work, I have DIR 605L HW:B2. Is there any other way to flash it or thats it ? Its to scary for me to mess with bootloader.

Does anyone know if there has been any efforts to merge the RTK support back into mainline/LEDE? (Honestly, I'm not even sure what the status of the LEDE-OpenWRT merge is.

I was able to use the RTL819X builds to reasonable success, but they're just against such old versions of OpenWRT, and more and more cheap routers are coming out with the RTL819X chipsets.  I'm really hoping that monitor mode becomes available too.  I've got an RTL8881 router as well as an RTL8197D sitting here on my desk.

The OpenWrt/ LEDE merge, as far as the code base is concerned, is complete. Merging the infrastructure (forum/ wiki, mailing lists, etc.) is in progress, although this aspect won't be completed quickly.

In terms of lexra (Realtek's reduced mips ISA) support, there is none - nor anyone actively pushing for it (as in providing patches/ pull requests against current master); chances for this to change are non-zero, but extremely low (once you'd have hypothetical lexra arch/ SOC support, there would still be the problem of the wlan drivers and current hostapd/ nl80211, to drive them reliably in AP mode).

[Disclaimer: I can't speak for the LEDE/ OpenWrt developers]
Personally I don't think lexra will 'ever' be supported in LEDE/ OpenWrt (too different from normal mips, no upstream/ toolchain support at all, very low-end devices, the wlan situation (drivers, AP mode reliability, nl80211 support) is difficult). But effectively all it would need, is someone pushing for it - to provide a (long-term-) manageable pull request with lexra support against OpenWrt/ master, kernel 4.14, musl, hostapd/ nl80211 for the wlan drivers and not too many arch specific changes (so it can be reasonably updated with the rest of OpenWrt and not stay behind).

Hi,
how you manage to compile openwrtSDK ?
I tested many versions but all ends up with that error:
"fixdep: error opening depfile: kernel/.bounds.s.d: No such file or directory"
I tested on Fedora 12,14,15,17.
What could be the problem ?

I am on Ubuntu 16.04 x64 - all is fine. May your sdk has issues?

The discussion might have continued from here.
