Topic: ZTE MF833V - LTE usb modem

Hi,

I am trying to set up my TP-LINK OpenWRT with my ZTE MF833 but it seems that nobody talked about this version here. I dont know if it acts as a router / Modem ... do I need to stick with the 3gdongle guide or try some other tricks? (such as CDC mode what ever it means...)

So far i've managed to do all the instructions from the 3g-dongle  page.

But no /dev/ttyUSB  or any kind of /dev/*usb* has been found :\

Have you tried rndis?

Best way to start with these is to plug it into a desktop Linux and confirm that it can get online (that you have signal in your location, and your SIM card and subscription are OK), and see what driver is used.

Well.. in windows & MAC it works like a charm , meaning that the SIM and signal are ok.


BTW, what is "rndis", I've tried to lookup for it in google and it seems to be a driver pack or somthing, so did you mean that I need to install on the WRT router rndis pack ?

From the "cat /sys/kernel/debug/usb/devices" it can be discerned that no driver is loaded for the device. The ZTE MF833 is using the Qualcomm MDM9225 modem chipset. Maybe you can take a look at https://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/recipes/ltedongle which discusses using the QMI protocol to talk to the modem chipset.

Check the packages required for QMI on the page I linked above and see if the device gets recognized when the new kernel modules are available.

After following through all the guides, what does your "cat /sys/kernel/debug/usb/devices" think about the device? Does it now have a suitable driver loaded?

This is a single storage interface only.  The modem must be switched into one of its modem modes.  Install the usbmode package.

I don't think you've told us which OpenWrt version you are using, but I'd recommend something recent for the best LTE modem support.

@ An7i21  did you get this working. I'm stuck with the same issue with ZTE MF833 USB dongle. Any direction will be great help
