Topic: Netgear AC2600 Nighthawk X4S VDSL/ADSL Modem Router (D7800)

The content of this topic has been archived between 6 Apr 2018 and 28 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

Hello @all,

i got this device for testing. Now as the NDA is over i am allowed to write about it.

So far this is a new VDSL Router, based on OpenWRT AA.

Specs:
http://www.netgear.com/home/products/ne … -techspecs

Interesting Key Features: Open Source support on www.myopenrouter.com

When i am at home a can post some Logs and stuff (what should i post?)

My personal impression from the beta: Nice piece of hardware. Not so nice piece of software (compared to pure OpenWRT). Performance was nice and stable.

In trunk r48360 this device is supported.

VDSL not working.

WLAN working.

Testing other features now.

USB is not working

Can i somehow help to debug the problem with usb? I'm not a dev, but a know how to compile openwrt and are wiling to test a patch and give feedback.
Would be nice smile

anyone???

Does VDSL2 work on this yet? If it does, I could be willing to purchase one and try lend a hand?

VDSL has no priority for me, because my ISP don't allow other modems. so i use the isp modem and the nighthawk as router/gateway/access point.
as far as i know vdsl doesn't work.
i think the only commit so far was the initial support commit for this router and since then noone commited any new patch for vdsl or usb or anything else.

any update on this?

any update? i already update ,if u set password of wifi, it will unsteady。

Hi to all, I just bought this router and got some informations about flashing openwrt in it.
I started with the DD trunk image and I flashed it correctly, i can loging in by using ssh and then install luci GUI, but there are some problems with that trunk image because I can only use and configure the LAN switch to get online on internet to download packages(by using another router that assign, using DHCP enabled on the SWITCH, an IP and i connect to that IP by using ssh), when I downloaded LUCI and  I went in the Interfaces tab, WAN interface show me only sent data but no data received, i tried to connect WAN interface to several other routers with DHCP enabled and also static IP(WAN side) but I see only sent data but not received data on that WAN interface.
The other problem is that all wireless interfaces(2.4 and 5 Ghz) are down, ifconfig doesn't show me any usable wlan interface so no wireless support in the DD trunk.
The DSL modem lantiq doesn't work(no interface rj11 is showed in ifconfig output).
I saw from Netgear source code that the original firmware is based on Attitude Adjustment openwrt, can someone use part of the Source Code(like ADSL modem modules(lantiq), wireless modules SWITCH and WAN modules) to build a special DD trunk with those modules that don't allow the d7800 to work propely?
Please help all d7800 to get this BEST firmware working on that nice pice of hardware!
Thanks to all who can help us!
best regards Emanuele

i'm using latest lede and wlan is working

Did you install luci? I can't see the tab menu. Then is your Wan interface working with that firmware?

i just reinstall lede firmware as you told me, i have got the same problems i wrote at the beginning of my posts, no want traffic received only sent traffic in the statistics of my WAN interface, here is the kernel log with some errors at the end, can someone help me?

i am using it as accesspoint only so i bridged all interfaces and this works flawless. yes i installed luci. what do you mean with "can't see the tab menu"?

Thanks for the answer mate, I meant I have no wireless menu under network tab, I installed wireless-tools package and those ath10k modules are just installed but I can't see any wireless Interface by using ifconfig...I just saw Wan interface can't receive any packet if it is connected to another 100 mb ethernet, it can receive packets only if it is connected to another gigabit interface. Can I use the modules/drivers found in the source code of netgear firmware to build my own dd trunk to get modem wan and wireless work as the firmware based on attitude adjustment? Thank you for the answer cheers from italy

what do you see if you execute the command

wifi status

uci show wireless | grep disabled

Hi,
I have just purchased this router and wish to run OpenWRT on it.  I have cross compiled the sources under macos so am happy to assist with development, however I am new to all this.  I am most interested in getting the ADSL to work, some places say it does, others don't.  Is there a definitive answer as to if this is working yet?
Thanks.

It has a Lantiq VR10(VRX320) xdsl2 modem chipset.

"The DSL firmware contained within the Netgear firmware image is:
dsl_vr10_firmware_xdsl-07.07.04.03.00.07_07.07.01.08.00.01.bin"

So anyone can test the xdsl modem. It would be natural procedure to activate the modem part on D7800,as using only wifi and IP WAN port on it is kind of "retarded", particularly there is R7800 to go with. Not to mention R7800 is cheaper than D7800.

So anyone can shed some light is activating xdsl portion doable on D7800?

I've had a bit more of a play with D7800 and LEDE trunk, see post here: forum.lede-project.org/t/netgear-d7800-build/505/2?u=thejoshw
I may be going down the completely wrong path, however with the knowledge I have gained with the build system I should be able to create packages as required.  If someone can tell me where to start (ie. just make the firmware packages and not the other stuff, please let me know) as it appears there is a lot missing from trunk for the D7800 ADSL.

Hi, i wrote a few months ago, i tried to install the openwrt firmware and also the LEDE firmware on this router but the problem is with the Wlan, i can't see the Wireless tab menu in luci, no wlan card recognized...have you got the same problem?
And at last...when I plug the WAN port of the router to my DSL modem's port(it is a 100Mb fastETH) the DHCP seems not working and doesn't assign to WAN an IP...if I plug WAN interface to a gigabit ETH modem it works, how could it be possible?
Cheers from Italy Roma

Haven't tried the wifi yet, am on the LEDE forums trying to get the DSL to work.  Will check it out next time I flash the modem.

Any update on the D7800 guys? I hate the netgear firmware so can wait to get something new...

Hi guys. Sadly no one replied. I’m struggling with even the basic LAN and I can’t even get any internet connection on either OpenWrt or LEDE. I’ve got a PPPOE internet  provider and I’ve even put PPPOE in LAN and WAN separately and neither work. If anyone with OpenWrt working could send me their settings it would be much appreciated.

Has anyone been able to get DSL working with the later versions of LEDE. It worked fine with the version from My Open Router but I have you to get it connected with the later snapshot builds. I'm incredibly new to this so I have basically no idea what I'm doing but I would love to be able to use the D7800 as a modem/router instead of just a router

The good part, it's a lantiq (PSB80320) ADSL frontend - the bad part, it's just the ADSL frontend without the accompanying lantiq SOC (VRX320), no RAM, no flash, it appears to be driven solely from the IPQ8064 SOC. It doesn't help either that LEDE/ OpenWrt doesn't appear to support lantiq VRX320 in general so far.

While the situation might not be as hopeless as it would be with a broadcom VDSL modem, this particular combination will be anything but easy, with lots of reverse engineering required (getting VRX320 xDSL drivers, investigating how it communicates with the IPQ8064 SOC - and to fix the driver to work in this 'alien' environment). Given that this device seems to be the only one which has chosen this particular combination, finding the manpower to get this done might be a bit harder.

In short, I wouldn't expect this to be supported anytime soon - and it might very well never find the attention needed to become supported either.
