Topic: WRT1900ACS V2 usb speed, normal via cable but painfully slow via wifi

The content of this topic has been archived on 3 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

Installed CC 15.05.01, kernel 3.18.23. Here's the speed test result:

mount info:
/dev/sda3 on /mnt/nas type ext4 (rw,relatime,data=ordered)
/dev/sda2 on /mnt/data type hfsplus (ro,relatime,umask=22,uid=0,gid=0,nls=utf8)

root@OpenWrt:~# hdparm -tT /dev/sda2
/dev/sda2:
Timing cached reads:   1438 MB in  2.00 seconds = 718.61 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads:  94 MB in  3.05 seconds =  30.83 MB/sec

root@OpenWrt:~# hdparm -tT /dev/sda3
/dev/sda3:
Timing cached reads:   1452 MB in  2.00 seconds = 725.82 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads:  96 MB in  3.03 seconds =  31.67 MB/sec

Test samba: samba36-server_3.6.25-5, with macOS Sierra

Via cable: read/write speed around 31MB/sec, same as hdparm test result.
Via WIFI 5G: read/write speed only around 1~2MB/Sec, sometimes even slower.

Any1 can help? Do I need to update wifi driver or something?

I googled and found this link: https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=66759. I don't know where to get this new wifi driver for kernel 3.18.23. If somebody can help to build an ipk, that's really appreciate.

HELP!!!

I'm using LEDE trunk for my WRT1200AC which is the same platform and don't have this problem. Why not give it a try?

Thanks for sharing. I'm currently using ExpressVPN router firmware which was based on CC 15.05.01, kernel 3.18.23. If I flash another firmware, I'll lose all ExpressVPN functions. I'm trying to find mwlwifi new version ipk for this kernel but no luck.

Here's the instructions for updating mwlwifi on the wrt1xxx series  -

Thanks for sharing. I updated a new version of ExpressVPN Router firmware. Problem solved. Not perfect but at least far better than previous one.
