Hi guys,

I want to upgrade flash of WR843ND (its 841v8), but i dont know which should i order.

5x W25Q16DVSIG (16MB Winbond SPI) for $2.99
or
1x W25Q32B (32MB Winbond SPI) for $2.42

I know that 16MB is supported and 32MB should be too, but i want to be sure before i buy. These listing are ending soon so can somebody reply quickly?

W25Q16DVSIG == 16 Mbit == 2 MiB
W25Q32B == 32 Mbit == 4 MiB

You should buy for example Winbond W25Q128 (128 Mbit == 16 MiB).

Thanks much, i forgot that they use size description in Mbits.

Which DRAM chip should i use for upgrade? I got spare GoodRam 512MB DDR 400. It have only 4 chips on each side so they are 64MB.

Look here: http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl- … mb_ram_mod

You need chip with 32Mbit x 16bit organization.
Your GOODRAM module has memories with 64Mbit x 8bit organization and they will not work.

I can recommend Samsung K4H511638J-LCCC.

The laptop size DDR1 modules usually have x16 chips.

I plan to upgrade ram, and flash (and maybe add usb port) on my 843v1 (841v8 clone - same board, same fw). RAM still haven't arrived but it have at least the 16MB SPI flash. I know that i need to flash pepe2k's u-boot in it. I got RPi2 that can be used for TTL serial, JTAG or as SPI programmer. I cloned both openwrt and uboot repository. Do i need to compile openwrt for 16MB or i can use official images? Can somebody write here steps needed to build openwrt for 841v8? I cant find anything specific on openwrt buildroot wiki.
Thanks much

EDIT: How to wire W25Q128? I connected pins 2 and 7 to VCC but it cant read or write. Flashrom says something about OTP (One Time Program) how to turn it off?

Hi, I have 841ND v8.2 with installed DD-WRT DD-WRT v24-sp2 (12/22/14) std(SVN revision 25697). I want to safely try openwrt.
How I switch from ddwrt to openwrt? I found link on ddwrt forum, but link is not work, ddwrt forum is locked. Thank you.

EDIT:
Here I found ho to do this:
https://samhobbs.co.uk/2013/11/switch-f … 30-minutes
And here I found webrevert firmware
http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic. … p;start=30

And also found solution here:
https://dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/TP-Link_TL-WR841nd_v8

I try it.

Hello! I have TL-WR841 with OpenWRT Barrier Breaker (r39406). It works perfectly except one problem. The router have 4 LAN ports and 1 WAN port. As I think all LAN ports works with internal switch. But LAN hosts cannot communicate from one to another, all traffic is blocked. I have 2 PCs with wired connection and a managed PLANET switch with its own IP address. I can't ping PC2 from PC1, I can't access PC1 from PC2, I can't access PLANET from PC1 and from PC2 etc.
So I have a question: what's wrong? Maybe OpenWrt's firewall settings? There is no firewall on all my PCs at all.

Hey guys, I'm having some trouble to install the USB port on my router.
I did the soldering (don't know if the wires are correctly soldered to the pins though).
The main problem is that I don't know which firmware should I use and which patches to use. I was reading this forum and I forced flash the latest build of the 3420v2 + usbutils.

When I type lsusb on the terminal the only thing that is showing is
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Should I change the firmware? Solder again..? It's really difficult to solder that small pins

Nevermind, I've discovered what I was doing wrong. I was using an external usb cellphone charger as power source to the USB port. The problem is that the Atheros chip (USB) needs the Ground and 5v to close the circuit and enable both D+ and D-
Now everything works.
In a few days I'm gonna post here some pics

Ok. Here are my little project:

I'm using my 841n v8 as a Printer Server / Scanner Server / Torrent Client.
The Printer Server is handled by P910ND, the Scanner Server by SANE and the Torrent by Transmission. The Printer/Scanner is a EPSON TX300F.
On the Client side (me and my house, we're all running Windows 10).

* The Printer Server isn't reliable yet because sometimes when a print job is sent to the printer it can take ages to start printing or start printing right away.

* The Scanner Server is working like a hell! JUST PERFECT! Can't even describe how flawless it is! Never had a issue since installing/configuring SANE.

* The Torrent side of my project is a little weird right now, I'm not reaching the full speed of my connection (5mbits ~ 575kb/s). Maybe my pendrive is very slow or even the router's RAM is filling up and throttling the download speeds. Sometimes using the Transmission web interface gives me errors about data loss between my browser and transmission web interface. If anyone has tips on this I'll be grateful.

I have to say, to solder those wires to that small pins... Jesus... I have shaky hands, you guys can't even know how difficult it was to me.

To starters like me, I don't know how to patch a kernel and enable the Atheros to listen and send data through D- and D+ so I used uboot's firmware posted on this forum. Worked well, but it was compiled using trunk and trunks change a lot, so I was not able to use other packages than those provided on the zip file. For now I'm using a pre-enabled D+ and D- firmware (from the 3420v2), the problem here is the space left to the user to install storage support. So I had to compile a Chaos Calmer stable image without LUCI and with some packages already built in to save space. Worked like a charm. for anyone who needs this firmware you can  DOWNLOAD IT HERE.

The second step was install an USB hub WITH external power supply. At first I was not aware about the lack of power this router Power Supply is capable of provide. Even building a relative good circuit to provide power, I didn't noticed that the Power Supply is only 500 mAh! So this caused a lot of problems and it was the last thing I've checked hahaha. I'm planning to build or buy another one with greater capabilities (at least 2000 mAh).

The third step was to enable my pendrive as extroot. Went in some problems here because my swap partition was mounting twice. Had to disable for now. Using normal ram until I find out the problem here.

The fourth step was about installing all packages I need. Now I have plenty space. My /overlay partition of extroot is 512mb.

The fifth step was configure and enable the Printer, Scanner and Transmission.

Here are my pictures hacking the device (too ZOOM IN just open the image on a new tab):

Improving the design. I did this to avoid putting more noise on the PCB using powered wires

yes, same issue here but with dd-wrt.

solved doing on every startup (task):

swconfig dev eth1 set enable_vlan 1
swconfig dev eth1 set apply

Hi.

I´m new here. So maybe sorry about for any already repeatedly asked questions.

I drive a TP WR841N v8 Router with DD-WRT v3.0-r29440 std (04/11/16). But I´m missing the "Services / VPN / "OpenVPN" functionality.

So here my question. Will I get these functionality with OpenWRT / "openwrt-15.05.1-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr841n-v8-squashfs-factory" firmware?

Thx for all your support.

Chaos Calmer 15.05.1 build

Is there any experts on this forum who get added support for 802.1q VLAN for Tp-Link WR841N?

I need tagged VLAN on the uplink interface for my multicast.

It seems that Luci have a problem with switch on this router. I have internet and IPTV from my ISP in two VLANS and there is no wan port in "switch" section of LUCI (12-09-rc1 attidude ajustment on wr841nv8.1). So it`s impossible create interface like eth0.x where x is vlan tag.
But there is field "custom interface" in "interface" section where you choose physical interface, and I type there eth0.1214 (1214 is internet vlan of my ISP), so interface "eth0.1214" was created saccesfully, and my pppoe connection work now on this interface.

Thank you very much for your post. My ISP also uses vlan 12 for Internet and i was having a hard time trying to create vlan 12 on eth0. Creating a custom eth0.12 solved my problem for now. smile
