Topic: router support

The content of this topic has been archived on 30 Mar 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

Who decides if a router is "supported"?
What is the definition of "supported", it installs and the LAN works?

I am looking for an AC router that the 5GHz  works with openwrt.

I currently have a TPLink Archer C20i and it is supported but the 5GHz doesn't work (and likely never will).

Maybe there should be a scale of how supported a router is:
1/7 - LAN 100Mbps works
2/7 - LAN 1000Mbps works
3/7 - wireless 802.11B - 2.4Hz works
4/7 - wireless 802.11G - 2.4Hz works
5/7 - wireless 802.11N - 2.4Hz works
6/7 - wireless 802.11A - 5GHz works
7/7 - wireless 802.11AC - 5GHz works
