Topic: Can not connect after config

The content of this topic has been archived on 2 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

Hi all,

I am new here.

I did flash my router linksys WRT54GL yesterday. Also is gut.

Then I config the /etc/config/network to  change the mode of router.

I did type something wrong in this config file.

After save and update the new config I can not connect the router more.

Can they help me how I can connect my router again?

Thank you.

Thank for your reply.

I did try to boot the router in failsafe mode. But I can still not connect to the router.

For the boot into failsafe mode I do the following:

- Unplug the router's power
- Connect the router's LAN1 port directly to your PC
- Configure your PC with a static IP address e.g. 192.168.1.10 (gateway and DNS is not required).
- Plug the power on and wait for the DMZ LED to light up.
- While the DMZ LED is on immediately press any button (Reset and Secure Easy Setup will work) a few times .
- If done right the DMZ LED will quickly flash 3 times every second. (in normal operation is the DMZ LED off)

Now is the router in the falsafe mode.

I try to connect the Router with telnet over terminal (I am using Ubuntu)

telnet 192.168.1.1

But I have always this message:

Trying 192.168.1.1...
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: No route to host

By ping I have this message:

PING 192.168.1.1 (192.168.1.1) 56(84) bytes of data.
From 192.168.1.2 icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.1.2 icmp_seq=2 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.1.2 icmp_seq=3 Destination Host Unreachable

Can they help me to connect my router?
Thank you

Hallo,

somebody can help me.
I did try for 1 day to connect to my router. But it's always failed.

If I try to change the Ip of my computer to e.g. 192.168.2.2. I see that the Network Monitor say that it it connecting. But I can not connect to the router.

I did compare LED of my router with another tutorial for boot router in failsafe mode. The State of LED for failsafe mode is ok.

Do they know, what can here happen with my router?
Which IP-Adresse can the router have?

Thank you for your help.

Try SSH, and WAN port too

Hello danymarc,

I did try to connect the router with ssh, telnet, ping over WAN Port and 4 LAN Port. But it's always failed.

The Network monitor show that the PC don't receive any data from router

Here is the message with ssh:

ssh: connect to host 192.168.1.1 port 22: No route to host

with telnet:

ssh: connect to host 192.168.1.1 port 22: No route to host

If I try to ping the route with IP 192.168.1.1 I have this message from plug in of power to the start router in the in failsafe mode:

somebody help me? I can still not connect to my router in failsafe mode sad

Did you get router in Failsafe mode
Power off the router
Unplug the WAN port  if you do not plug out wan port, you cannot enter failsafe mode

Stage 1: Computer IP settings
Set your computer's IP to 192.168.1.2, subnet 255.255.255.0. The router will be reached at 192.168.1.1 when failsafe mode is running.

Stage 2 option 1: Trigger failsafe mode when the SYS LED begins to blink
Router OFF The switch is behind a hole iand require a paper clip or similar tool to, press it with router OFF, now power ON keep pressed until the SYS LED lights with the rapid-flash pattern.
And then got the OPENWRT logo
