Hi. I have d-link dir-825D1 with rtl8197D on the board. Trying to get access to UART. I think i found pins and now i trying to connect through rs-232 with PuTTY. i'v benn tryed most of settings for com-port, but have only chunk in console when connecting to rtl. Who can help me with access to SoC?
sorry for bad English.
Device is for experiments. Feel free to use it over my hands.
Connection with rtl over rs-232 is in windows8.1. but i can install virtual machin with debian for linking and oher needs.

First of all you should know that the PC RS-232 port actually is NOT the port you need. You have to use TTL adapter (FT232*/CH34*/PL230*/etc...). Some explanations are here.

If you already use the cable/adapter try another port/computer/operation system/cable/adapter.

Could you please provide any details regarding to restoration process? I've got my DIR-825/AC bricked similar way (flash was erased completely).

HI. I have installed Openwrt to UR-825AC. I need to install  the sane and the print server. Help me please, is it possible now or later? Now I have the problem because all links in configuration are wrong, for example http://downloads.openwrt.org/barrier_br … ldpackages

Did you run the flash utility on the device which erased a part of your boot loader? :x

Looks like i did. Recklessly, yea.
Is there way to bring router back to work? I even have 25xx eeprom SPI programmer now (only after everything has been bricked, lol).

ADD: however, i've dumped contents of my router's eeprom and found out that actually everything looks fine. Bootloader seems to be on it's place. Although, router is not going to boot when i switch it on. Both power leds (green and blue) lights constantly, the same with red+green status leds, UART does not respond (and there is no any output to it).

That happened to me a couple of days ago >_> haven't got it working yet.
I don't have an SPI programmer on hand and I don't have much experience with desoldering anyway...
From what I know the flash command ends up corrupting the bootloader starting at offset 0x6000 in the flash.
If you're able to program the flash through an SPI programmer you should be able to fix it.
Do you have a backup of the original flash content?
If not, I do and can send it to you smile
Also, can you send me a copy of your corrupted dump please?

EDIT: you can probably fix it using JTAG as well, but I'm not sure if this router has working JTAG pins.. never checked

No, i haven't, so it will be great if you send me yours smile

And i'll send you my corrupted dump as well, no problem about that.
My email is in@tech-ranzhe.ru

As about JTAG, i presume it as a kind of last resort, but i hope that flashing your dump will help smile

Thank you in advance!

Hi everyone,

I have a DIR-612 with rtl8196e on the board. Is there an openwrt image for rtl8196e I could use?

Thanks!

Hi, are there any images for the TL-WR841HP router?

Hello!!
I've bricked my d-link dir-615 t1 (rtl8196e and rtl8192er), and I need the bootloader (or full dump flash) to try to recovery... I think that any d-link rtl8196e bootloader will work, someone here could help me ?

Thanks!!

Thanks!!! It worked... but i think that this is the original realtek bootloader, or this is the d-link bootloader?
Because the emergency tftp of dlink isn't working, and the tftp to 192.168.1.6 doesn't accept dlink firmware...

But thank you very much, at least I restored the access to it!!

Hi guys!

Maybe something can be cooked for DIR-850L?

CPU1: Realtek RTL8197D (660 MHz)

Hi, guys!
I have a lot of staff of old routers! Most of them are with rtl8196c. I managed to compile u-boot with 16MB flash and USB support for ar7240's models (TP-Link WR740 N v1 - 2), but I'm not able to find any solution for rtl8196c with RTL8188RE and upgraded to 16MB flash with 64MB RAM. I have carefully read all the topics and threads in this forum but I don't find anything useful to do that (except different sources). A lot of people asks about Zyxel nbg 416N but still nothing. Please help me to find a solution! I would like to use OpenWRT 15.05.1 with USB mod for this router upgraded with 64MB RAM and 16MB Flash.

Hi
I have a Netis WF2780 which is basically the same (chipset) as Upvel, D-Link... mentioned above
I abandoned the attempts to build OpenWrt for it. Now I am trying to hack the Init scripts (bash /etc/profile in this case) and use exisiting executables but with a different configuration. I want to split br0 into two different subnets and (perhaps later) add some compiled executables of my own.
I managed to download the root squashfs, expand, modify and upload back. Now I want to attach a USB stick to speed-up developement. The board has a 2x6 header (empty holes) where I found the UART pins and the rest should be USB pins. So I ask if someone could help me to identify USB pins. Some other boards have the USB socket pads.
Someone with electronic skils please "ring" connections from USB socket to processor (RTL8197DN). They could be somwhere on the bottom side of the processor.
The second pin from the left is UART-Tx and the third is UART-Rx. But this is all I know.

Hello,
I have Trendnet TEW-651BR H\W ver. 2.3
FCC ID: XU8TEW651BRV2

CPU1: Realtek RTL8196C (390 MHz)
FLA1: 4 MiB (Macronix MX25L3206EM2I-12G)
RAM1: 32 MiB (ESMT M12L2561616A-6T)
WI1 chip1: Realtek RTL8188RE

Could I participate in testing OpenWRT?

Hi, I am trying to build OpenWRT for Netis WF2780. Unfortunately, I overwrote the flash without making a proper backup first. Could anyone please share a full flash dump? An Uplevel UR-825AC or D-link DIR-825 D1/E1/G1 dump might work too, at least to get recovery mode working.

Adrianp, can you please elaborate which pin is the serial transmit pin? And what speed does it use? I did not manage to make it work.

Here is my e-z flash setup, for inspiration. 2x6 header is visible in the picture:

Hello forum , I am following this 3d from long time now .

As many have understood Realtek has some lack in information and I didn't found not only a working sdk  ( not from jwr2000 , neither WS-WN, neither dlink) always something is missing, always the addresses of the kernel and root and webpages are different one from other and we need to recompile the bootloader.

But I made an evaluation board, home made, where I can test as many firmwares I want in very few minutes, without the needing of solder and desolder.

ALL I NEED is a whole dump, bootloader included.

I have a netis wf 2411 rtl 8196c , 4 mega spi, 16 mega ram ,and rtl 8188 as wifi,  as many thousand clones laying around.

On this board run smootly the netis firmware ( 4096 kb) , the WS-Wn 523 firmware ( only 2048 kb)  and a brand called digitalline (4096 too ) firmware.

I programmed the spi, and voilà the router is booting even with 2 mega dump, even with 4 mega dump. All hardare is working perfectly, even if it seems to me that the WS-WN firmware has much wifi sensibility of others and the incredible is that WS-WN523 claims to have rtl 8196E but in real it boots on the rtl 8196C !
I was looking for a WS-WN513 whole dump but not able to find.

I have also tried a 8 mega spi flash and it boots perfectly even filled with the 2 mega dump.

So I have this starting points: the most usefull firmware is the netis one, they gave possibility to have static routing too, access point, client , repeater, but also client-repeater at the same time, and with two different ssid, one for joining the access point, one for local use. Very incredible features !!

Now comes the question: instead of killing ourselfes in the hope of openwrt port, is anybody capable of hacking the original firmware for adding new features?

Do you believe is possible to hack the root fs and add dropbear for ssh access, scp for manipulating files, vim editor?
i would like so much to use those routers in routed way, not natted way and have direct access to iptables configuration.

And no matter is the size of root increase i have seen that the processor boots even the 8 mega spi , is just important that the rootfs doesn't overwrites other vitals part of the rom.

so let's give a try.

I am very able with soldering-desoldering, but less with programming so if somebody interested into try but not have hardware, here I am

Fabio

P.S. if someone have FULL DUMP of any rtl8196c with rtl 8188 wifi ( 2 or 4 mega no matter) and want to share for having a database collection, fell free to contact. I will try on my evaluation board if it boots regularly)

OR if someone has a full dump of an opewrt working on rtl 8196C/E , even without luci to test on this universal rtl board
