i have two dlink routers that are listed and documented in here :

and the dsl 2740 r a1 : http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/d-link/dsl-2740b

i would like to know if the 2542b can be updated with your firmware ?

beside that i also need help about using the right file for both .

the 2740 r page has the link for getting the file that ends at : https://downloads.openwrt.org/barrier_breaker/14.07/

but there i have to select smp or generic and inside these folder there is no file having 2740 or 2542 in the name , so i am not sure which to use for flashing .

The 2740r has a completely different CPU than the 2740b, although wikiedevi does not say exactly what CPU it is.

Devices with only 16 MB of RAM, which is both of yours, will have trouble running OpenWRT especially the later kernel versions.

the routers firmware has to be updated ...or changed .
