Topic: New tiny router with AR93xx

Good info.  I had seen this on the GL.iNet web site, but the link still does not work.

The only difference I see between the two 16mb units is the switches.  Did I miss something?

Do I recall you ordering one of the 6416a?

From what i understand is that the 6416a uses the AR71xx and this new little beast has the newer AR93xx as its brains. Not sure what the exact differences are. The AR93xx series are more industrial spec.

also have a look at this:

That again makes me wonder if the Mediatek in the NEXX has 5Ghz enabled in the stock firmware and that my memory was correct about the 5Ghz signal... in that NEXX thingy....  Lets hope that NEXX will be honourable and share the source with us.

Anyhow.. the AR93xx is thatone fully backward compatible with the AR71xx  or how does that work???
It's hard to find any decent datasheet of these two. (or google is holding back on me)

BTW is this chinese www.openwrt.org.cn an official or unofficial 'affiliate'?

Yes i have ordered a 6416A the other day.. i was a few days too soon ...  still waiting for the snailmail....

Well, you have been busy.

The wiki indicates the 6416 is also a ar9331.  http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/gl-inet/gl-inet but I believe the TOH is basically saying that all the AR chips use the same development family.  Not really sure.

Looking at the https://dev.openwrt.org/wiki/platforms , I am not clear if there a platform entry missing.   I do not see at AR93XX, but do see a AR931XX.

I can not speak to the Asian site or the technical issue for the Mediatek chip.  Beyond my knowledge and skill set.

Most of it is also behind my knowledge. But I have the basic hunter gatherer skill set, hunting for information and gathering hardware, and then combine that to make electric-age tools.

Neo-primitive humanoid.... :-)

I hope the 6416 arrives soon.

AR93xx is a specific model with an ar71xx core. It would use the same basic code as other Atheros ar71xx devices.

thanks drawz,  that cleared up some space in my mind.

The discussion might have continued from here.
