Topic: bcm53xx platform missing from platform list?

The content of this topic has been archived on 16 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

I'm looking at the platforms page https://dev.openwrt.org/wiki/platforms and I don't see anything here resembling this CPU, except maybe the bcm2708 in the Raspberry Pi. I see it in the trunk under target/linux, though. Is it missing?

Also, since devices like the Netgear R8000, and the Linksys EA6300/6400/6700 are based on this platform, does that mean they qualify for the WIP list? http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/wip

I came across all this because I have an EA6400 I'd like to get working with OpenWRT, and I'm just trying to figure out how much still needs to be done. Its main hardware specs are here: http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless … 300-buyers . According to this site http://www.anandtech.com/show/5925/broa … ac-routers , its CPU, the bcm4708, is a bcm53xx type, in spite of its name. Also, does that mean bcm4708 shouldn't be a tag in the bcm47xx wiki page? http://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/hardware/so … om.bcm47xx

Yeah, I found that OK. So it looks like it definitely exists, as a thing, and should therefore be present in the platform list on the dev wiki.

WZR-1750DHP(D) is in the main ToH, so it's accounted for. Each in your list that says the target is bcrm47xx is actually wrong, it seems. The Archer C8 is in the possible list. I guess that's where the EA6300 etc. should be until serious development specifically for it happens.

tmo26 and I have been putting some effort into getting the list (table of hardware) right, so we are happy for your feedback.

If you are specific about what is wrong, and what is the right value, we will update the ToH. Or even better if you update the ToH yourself.

There is a lot of questionable information in the ToH, and if you have a qualified opinion you can do much better than I can do.

1) Get serial console access
2) Grab boot log using original firmware (or DD-WRT if it exists)
3) Grab output of "nvram show | grep gpio"
4) Create forum thread providing above logs

Each of the bcm4708 routers should be classified as bcm53xx; not brcm47xx, in spite of the name. That's what I meant when I said there was a mistake in the brcm47xx entries. I'd edit it, but my account registration failed. I can't figure out why. That thread is here: https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?pid=275129

I'll get right on the serial console access. My computer doesn't have a serial port, which I guess nobody should find too surprising. I guess I'll need to get a usb to serial converter. Anybody partial to a particular model of this hardware?

Which would be useless anyway because of voltage difference. You would probably simply fry your router.

I order the cheapest ones from ebay (usually I just pick offer with short cables included). Just look for "USB TTL" on ebay. They are really cheap, you can always take 2 just in case.

I just created a new forum thread here with all this information in it. Happy hacking!
