Topic: How to install openwrt to TP Link TL-WR740N V5

My router is TP Link TL-WR740N V5 (Hardware design same as V4)
RAM 32MB
Flash 4MB

I have tried to install openwrt firmware v4 via OEM firmware but it prevents me from flashing due to version mismatch.

Can antbody help me to modify header of  openwrt firmware v4 to V5 of  OEM firmware. I have a copy of  OEM firmware.

Thanks & regards

According to the Wiki page, this is wrong. The v5 revision only has 2 MB of internal storage, you won't be able to install a V4 image on a V5.

The version you are talking abou is V5 china. But my case is V5 international and it has asme hardware as v4 soc is AR9331, RAM 32MB,
Flash 4MB so no question of hardware unsupport. Only issue with firmware header.

/jags

I stand corrected, as should the Wiki.

Yes sir you are absolutely right.

This is wiki.
http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr740n

It is clearly mention V5 (China)

But my hardware is not that, it is V5 international.

/jags

form u boot login (using serial port) i installed openwrt TL-WR740N V4 firmware into my TL-WR740N V5 hardware and its woking fine.

Jaqspaul

Pls can u help me, how u installed open wrt to TL-WR740N V5 with "serial port".

This is your serial port???
PunBB bbcode test

Thanks

Yes tplink-740 v5 international has 4MB flash and 32MB RAM. Exactly like v4.
Flashing with serial is okay but it is not good when you have to flash more pieces.
Seems like dd-wrt put support for v5 international /not china 2mb flash/
Here is the link:

http://svn.dd-wrt.com:8000/changeset/26464

Easy fix to flash openwrt direct from the webpage:
You take version 4 factory flash.
Do:

/openwrt/staging_dir/host/bin/mktplinkfw -H 0x07400005 -W 1 -F 4M -N OpenWrt -V r40718  -X 0x40000 -k /openwrt/build_dir/target-mips_34kc_uClibc-0.9.33.2/linux-ar71xx_generic/tmp/vmlinux-tl-wr740n-v4.bin.lzma -r /openwrt/build_dir/target-mips_34kc_uClibc-0.9.33.2/linux-ar71xx_generic/root.squashfs-raw -a 0x4 -j -o /openwrt/bin/ar71xx/openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr740n-v5-squashfs-factory.bin

You may need to change -r40718 to your version.
Now you will have openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr740n-v5-squashfs-factory.bin which you can flash directly from original web.
This is dirty way to do the things.
Someone must make patches in the trunk....

I created a firmware image using Attitude Adjustment 12.09-beta r33312, I tried your command however the -X option isn't available and I flashed the resulting firmware bin and bricked a router.

Do you know how can I convert my working r33312 image to be compatible with wr740n v5?

Thanks in advance.

wget: bad address 'downloads.openwrt.org'

suggests that there's a problem with either the connectivity in general or your DNS server failing to resolve the server name

How do i get past this? I set signature check to 0 but it had no effect

Fixed it. I just deleted last line from opkg_conf ( option signature_check 1) and now everything works

If you had tweaked the router trying to configure before you start reset to default
Go to Network/interface and leave LAN green one alone, next down is WAN red one click edit and will open. A page as screen
http://s13.postimg.org/ny6evrg9z/openwrt.jpg
subirimagenes
Protocol Static IP
And fill parameters
172.16.193.250 or 247 I don't know if you got 250 from your Lap test both
255.255.255.248 ip4 Netmask
172.16.193.249 this is ip4 Gateway
101.2.166.26 use custom DNS servers I assume this is your ISP DNS
8.8.8.8 this is Google DNS to input the second click on the square to the right
At the bottom right click Save & Apply t thr end, wait 1 min you should have Internet if not reboot
