Topic: Hard drive stops working

Hi!

I use a TP-Link WR1043ND V1 with OpenWRT 12.09 and I want to use a harddrive (1 TB) formatted to ext4 to save files from Transmission web.
It works only a few minutes and then the hard drive stops working. I think that the current isn't enough at that time.

Is the any way to fix it?

Thanks in advance

- Using a HUB with a dedicated power supply

Thanks, but isn't any way to avoid that? I mean, when I plug the hard drives it works and it stops in some minutes, so I only need to have the power stable

ANy help?

Have you already tried to use a self-powered USB hub (i.e. a USB hub with external power supply)?

How much power (mA) does your harddrive draw?

Have you tried a 2.5" HDD?

Likely it is overloading the 5 volt regulator in the router.  This regulator is used only to power devices on the USB bus, so when it goes down the router continues to work OK but the drive quits. The only simple solution is an external hub that supplies power or replace the drive with one that uses less power.

Thanks, I will try as soon as I have one
