make sure you're:
- using usb-ttl adapter, not pc's com-port.
- using correct port speed, should be 57600
- powering your router from same pc as usb-ttl, or else you need to connect gnd cable too.

i've soldered tx and rx cables but it seems router does not startup if tx cable connected.
is it because of gnd cable isn't connected? but router and usb converter are connected to the same usb hub

upd
finally works fine used the following connection:
router tx -> ttl rx
router rx -> ttl tx

Hoops! At last, I made a brick after add kmod-fs-ntfs and tftpd-hpa in Hackru's great build.sh.
It seems boot (LED comes to be on and can see Wifi AP) but cannot get IP address and accessing via ssh/http failed. I made something wrong.
Lacking Samba (because of memory shortage) means OpenWrt's image is larger than the original? As default, I wanted same functions as original products. I tried to include samba several times, but I could not then I thought to use ftp.

There is patch from lordroger based on my patch. I will update my openwrt with his work, hope he don't mind.

I updated my patch on openwrt, and now there's simplier method of upgrading this thing. Right via stock web interface.

Hello, hackru!
I've ordered Nexx WT1520 and want to ask:
if there any simple way to flash it?
And can you make a video of flashing it...
Thanks!

Здравствуйте, hackru!
Скажите, существует ли простой метод перепрошивки данного девайса?
Вы сможете сделать видео процесса прошивки?
Заранее благодарен.

Thank you, scuaed!
When i recieve my router i'l definitely try that!

hackru, thank you for your work!

scuaed, thanks for the link!

Hey plumbum, thanks for you findings! Very nice! Did you recompile image to access them?

hackru, yes, but i build image for VOCORE with some dts modifications
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/307 … VOCORE.dts
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/307 … E.dts.diff

Apparently, GPIO # 1 and # 2 on the GPIO which is hardware I2C not going away from a processor. I want to unsolder all the chips that would clarify the board layout.

P.S.: GPIO #27 probably used by spi, and can't access trivially as GPIO.

P.P.S.: Okay, now you can see the nude PCB ;-)

Bottom: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/307 … d_1280.jpg (king size https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/307 … ldered.jpg)

P.P.P.S.: White led wired here to WLAN_LED_N (K1) pin. No GPIO.
SPI_CS1 (GPIO #27) unconnected =(
I2C_SD & I2C_SCLK unconnected =(((

Is it possible to put TOR on Nexx WT1520 ? Im new on these things.

It's possible.

Hello! I used this link (Create *.bin file of openwrt firmware and flush it via web interface) and everything was fine, until I tried to setup WAN port as LAN, after applying new settings router rebooted and now I can't connect to it. Windows network adapter status is "Network undefined", similar for Wifi network - it is visible, but connection to it stucks on status - "Obtaining IP address". How can I reset router's settings? I tried reset button, but it didn't help or may be I did some thing wrong.

A few questions:

1) Is there a BIN file that I can flash from the stock interface to install OpenWrt? I've looked at hackru's page, but the translation is hard to follow.

2) Is there trunk support yet? I noticed a openwrt-ramips-rt305x-wt1520-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin file on the official OpenWrt server, though no factory.bin. Would it be safe to upgrade with this, once I get OpenWrt installed?

Thanks!

Thanks hackru, but I found your (English) instructions on post #52 and they worked (I used the latest trunk sysupgrade.bin from the OpenWrt server).

Still, I think a lot of people would appreciate an easier, more fool-proof approach, so it would be great if you would provide a factory image.

Have to do more testing, but so far so good. Thanks to everyone, love the router so far!

Hello creekmind, i think, you're in trouble. Truth is, reset button's gpio is not completed in my image. There's amazing findings from plumbum, but i sadly don't have time to add his findings to my patch(and upstream!), hope someone could fix it. In your situation is only one option - you need to connect usb ttl console.

I seem to have bricked mine after writing a custom image, just like copin (my sysupgrade file was 3670020 bytes). Like hackru said, the reset button doesn't seem to work in trunk sad

Are there any special instructions for recovering with a USB UART? Which image file do I need to write from uboot?

Sorry to hear this.
No special instructions, just flash sysupgrade image.

BTW if anyone wants to know the positions of the case clips (so they don't ruin it when trying to open their devices), here's a photo.

My board is V1.2 BTW.

Seems like the flash didn't actually fail, because I can log into OpenWrt fine over the serial console. Can't get the ethernet ports working though, and while I can activate wireless AP mode,  I can't SSH/telnet in. It might be related to the fact that I omitted all IPv6 packages in the image file. I'm getting this a few seconds after boot:

root@OpenWrt:/# procd: - init complete -
procd: Instance odhcpd::instance1 s in a crash loop 6 crashes, 0 seconds since last crash

Thought I could bypass DHCP and manually force an IP address, but that didn't work.

Also dmesg gives:

[ 245.710000] br-lan: port 1(eth0.1) entered disabled state
[ 250.360000] device eth0.1 entered promiscuous mode
[ 250.360000] device eth0 entered promiscuous mode
[ 250.380000] br-lan: port 1(eth0.1) entered forwarding state
[ 250.380000] br-lan: port 1(eth0.1) entered forwarding state
[ 252.380000] br-lan: port 1(eth0.1) entered forwarding state
[ 253.760000] device wlan0 entered promiscuous mode
[ 254.150000] br-lan: port 2(wlan0) entered forwarding state
[ 254.150000] br-lan: port 2(wlan0) entered forwarding state
[ 256.150000] br-lan: port 2(wlan0) entered forwarding state

Any idea how I can get some sort of network access so I can transfer and burn a new image?

EDIT: got wireless working by stopping the firewall and manually setting an IP address.

Noticed something weird though:

root@OpenWrt:~# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on
rootfs 14.3M 72.0K 14.2M 0% /
...

Kernel log also has:

jffs2: Too few erase blocks (4)

Which seems to indicate that the image size is too big. I'm guessing that the image builder isn't correctly verifying this properly.

Guys,

just wanted to say THANK you for the job!

Yesterday I flashed WT1520 in 5 mins: telnet with login/pass, wget of the latest trunk, mtd-write and done!

What I noticed is that when you update with sysupgrade root password gets reset (not firstboot!). it was not the case with other routers I have.
