Topic: dead after flashing wr703n

Ok. Read the entire thread but still don't know how to continue. Following case:

Ver. 1.6 after opening the lid it still states 1.6 on the ethernet port. Flashed it with latest openwrt: openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr703n-v1-squashfs-factory.bin from http://downloads.openwrt.org/attitude_a … actory.bin

Ethernet port doesn't work anymore. Not even in failsafe mode. Soldered serial cable and I managed to login through terminal and setup the wifi/ap. Now, I can even ssh into the machine through wifi but the ethernet port still doesn't work. Here's my bootloader output:

So, I am wondering how can I flash another image (and which one?!) if my ethernet port doesn't work and i don't have luci installed to do it through the web interface.

You have ssh working so you can use scp to transfer openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr703n-v1-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin to your router:

scp openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr703n-v1-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin root@192.168.1.1:/tmp/

Now you can flash your router with this file:

cd /tmp/
sysupgrade -v openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr703n-v1-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin

Router will reboot and you can hope it was fixed.

Hope you can get some good use for this!

I reveived a 130321 version, seems 1.6. I tried downgrade with the link and works well with tplink firmware.

After that I used http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/ … actory.bin this image and works ok.

Hope this can be helpfull.

For the record, I just got a 130321 version of a WR703N, and flashing it directly with the attitude adjuster binary that fastred posted above (http://downloads.openwrt.org/attitude_a … pgrade.bin) worked a treat - no brick, and both WLAN and LAN seem to be detected.

Just got one of these as well and I can confirm the previous posts that flashing worked out of the box without having to do any other steps.
Mine shows on the sticker Ver:1.6 and came with original firmware version 3.15.2 Build 130321 Rel. 37153n

The same as Fredy, I just gone a TL-WR703N, with the same firmware revision.  I installed the same OpenWrt file, and it worked without any problem, just by a simple firmware replacement via the standard (Chinese) web interface.

Bought a wr703n via eBay on 06/2014.
Received a V 3.15.2, Build 130321, Rel 27153n.
Flashed the stable 12.09 AA (squashfs) via web interface (no renaming of image-file needed).
Watched the chinese progressbar and was finally greeted by the Luci-Login-Webform.
Everything went very smooth (so far).

I recently received two TL-WR703N from an online seller. I opened the box and inside on the Ethernet jack it says version 1.6. There is also marked 135032 on the same sticker on the Ethernet Jack. On the outside sticker on the plastic cabinet it is marked 1.6 as well.

I have not been able to follow the complete history of this project and there is a lot of conflicting information around. Even if this has been asked before: what os version should I flash for this unit -- as per August 2014? (Much of the info out there is old and dating back from 2012). What is the newest stable fw that will work and where do I download it?

You can use aa 12.09 listed in the wiki

I'd really like to get a handful of TL-WR703N without the eth issue.  When buying new, what are the rough odds of getting a version 1.7, mislabeled or otherwise these days?  Are some vendors safer than others?  Are there vendors specifically to avoid?  I'm thinking that they all probably drop ship from about the same places in the PRC these days.

with recent version of openwrt is exactly the same to use 1.6 or 1.7...

On the wiki it is said that there are 1.7 versions which do NOT work:

v1.7    April 2014 (3.17.1 Build 140120 Rel.56593n)    Unsupported    trunk(r40351) not work

so nebbia88's comment applies to all 1.7HW (and the wiki is outdated) or the info is partially wrong?

Hello everyone
First time here, i need help for my bricked router.
I think is a 1.6 version, after flashing it started to blink and i can't recognize it on wifi and even on ethernet.
I soldered the tx, rx and gnd as written on the wiki and connected with the usb/serial converter over putty.
On the prompt of putty, initially start with some strange character ( communication settings 115200 8 n 1) follow by the write "press f and enter to failsafe mode" i press f and enter but nothing happen. I tried after a while pressing reset when boot and enter in the openwrt prompt with root@root: if i try to write something on it nothing happen, looks like the keyboard is not connected.
What i'm asking, is it possible that i've soldered not properly the rx wire and it can't reiceive my input from keyboard or the problem maybe is over?
If i leave it run normally, without pressing reset button, the command line stop with "kernel panic attempt to kill init"

I've bricked two in a row using sysupgrade (3.3.8) on two firmware 1.6 units which already had openwrt installed on it. Talk about confusing. I can't bother to get into soldering a serial port and both only blink the LED once then go off.

I'm assuming they are both trash now?

Sorry., that was a question. I'm trying to figure out if they are both trash so I don't ruin any more smile.

my wr703n is running mr3020 fw, and can not be downgraded as it is running a new uboot from this fw TL-MR3020_V1_140610

there is information in the mr3020 thread that openwrt can be flashed on 140408 mr3020 firmware, I'[m going to downgrade to this and then use the uboot tutorial from here: http://gerryk.com/node/34 to install pepe2k's uboot
