What do you mean ?

Are u using 3020 ?
He just compiled image for 703n.
For the packages, it is for the whole ar71xx series.

I'm using a 3020 which is new with the original firmware from tp-link.
I broke the case and installed a serial connection with works.

why you need serial ?
just flash it in (stock) webui, no need to break anything.

I've been trying for days to go with my E220 online. It does not work.
I can not address the device. I can not install kmod-usb-serial-option.

I made the serial connection for test purpose only as I wanted to see what the boot process is doing.

Do you think that openwrt-ar71xx-generic-ja76pf-rootfs-squashfs.bin is the right file?

I thought it should be about 3MB, but this one is only 1,5 MB

No it is not the right file.

with serial, will one be able to flash the mr3020 stock image to the wr703n since it's the same hardware?

new r31467 is out, kernel version 3.3.3, most images are included.
Just that those kmod-usb-storage etc. are still missing.....

E220 is working fine with the original TP-Link Firmware. I have no more ideas.

I can`t find this packages in it:
kmod-usb-serial,
kmod-usb-serial-option,
kmod-usb-serial-wwan.
Where did they gone?
I can`t install 3G dongle support on WR703N without it...

I installed gpsd with opkg update install gpsd on my device
It  runs fine if it is started from the console.
I have tried to run it from the rc.local script but the scipt in /etc/local is always overwritten at new boot.
I have tried to override /rom/etc/rc.local with vi , but I got a message that rc.local is readonly

Any suggestions?

What are you gonna do ?

/rom/etc/..... it is ROM, of coz it is readonly !
/etc/local...... no such directory
it should be /etc/rc.local

of course it is /etc/rc.local , I should read my posting twice.

the problem is solved, /etc/rc.local is writable and the changes are preseverd after reboot.
I can't remember the etc directory to which I made the first changes that were lost after reboot.

I run the daemon with gpsd -G /dev/ttyUSB0 and it runs fine and data can be read from another box.
But I think I have to do some checking before I start.

Are there any examples how to start a daemon?
I checked the /etc/rc.d/S98sysntpd file but a similar script does not work.

I'm really exicited how easy it was to build everything from scratch, flash new firmware and install the gpsd.

Some pakcages already installed in a firmware - you see this in a console.

I have finished setup my own buildroot,
and finished compile the latest build - r31506
With build-in webui, it have 300KB more free space for other packages.

I run 64bit ubuntu under VM8, base system is 32bit XP
skip compile all .bz2 jiffs files to save time and space.
Even I put 3 cores to the VM, it takes around an hour to build bin and all packages.

While openwrt server building r31506.
I've finished building r31513 and r31515.
The source code seems also system generate,
It is fun to DIY.

Someone knows what is the easiest way to flash router from dd-wrt to openwrt from web UI it can't be done.
And I connected serial to router but I see lot of garbage I use prolific maybe it need a resistor between TX and ground ?

Easiest way !?
Edit openwrt...bin header so that ddwrt webui can recognize.  (header, not filename)
Or telnet to it, use mtd.
No serial interface is needed.

Use the DD-WRT web revert firmware to get back to the Chinese original firmware and then flash OpenWRT from the GUI

Looks you are having fun.  It is really pretty simple.
I agree with all your said.  The compiled version using squashfs is compressed and uses less flash memory than jffs.  (I am not sure but guess the ram usage will be the same.)  The first time compilation needs more time than second time around from my experience.  If you only add some packages or make some minor changes, it usually only take 10-20 minutes even with single core.

Thanks I used mtd. what about serial interface maybe someone knows why it doesn't output clean data maybe I need to solder this resistor ... and in OpenWRT internal router serial is ttyS0 how can I disable output on it and use it for my purposes...

Have you tested this serial cable previously and did it work properly?  I have had a couple bad cables before.
I have a few 703n's and none of them need any resister pull up.

Compare with compile linux kernel, it is too easier.
just that today's workstation linux doesn't need compile anymore, unless you need fine tune or fine customization.

I find that multi-core doesn't really speedup compilation time, even I have also enabled parallelized.
Do I need to use "distclear" after some period of time to start all over again ?
Or it is fine just add the changes ?

I've just saw trunk code r31541 is out, kernel is 3.3.4

I tried to change IP address of my 703n. After changing it I made a mistake in syntax, I wrote something like this:

'192.168.1.1

I forgot to close ', and I disconnected it.

Now I can't access anymore.

What can I do?
