Hi there, Just wondering how i connect a serial cable to this? ive seen the pin outs ect on some other posts but i am still not sure... do i need a max232 or what? as when i tried using the TX RX and GND to my PC it didnt work :<.

I really need to reset this back to default openwrt settings, is there a way i can do this without using serial?

Cheers,
Chris

your router wants 3,3V, while your pc serial port works at 9-12 V. Either use a max232 or a dedicated usb-serial cable. Inform yourself properly before connecting. Start with wiki article port.serial.

it doesn't really state what tx/rx levels it operates at. just, that it can output 3,3V and 5V. so, chances are like 50/50.

Okay, ive digged out my old serial Max232 so i just use the RX TX + GND? because the board says +5V...?

yes, tx, rx and gnd are all you need to hook up, normally.

So i needed to connect the +5v..

You can also plug in compatible chips to get performance specific to your application, for example 3.3volt use.

Seems your existing adapter is 5V, which is most likely not what your router wants. As mentioned, you may replace the max232 with one specified for 3.3V.
+5V/+3,3V does not need to be connected on a router device.
