Topic: Reflash TP-LINK WR-1043ND with no ethernet access

Hi,

i'm having trouble with a router specified in the subject. I was tweaking some configs, enabled some firewall and now i find it impossible to access the router via LuCI / telnet / ssh, and when i ping the device it says "Destination port unreachable". Also, it doesnt serve IP's via DHCP anymore.

So, i'm trying to find a way to reflash it. The label on the router says it's hardware v1.8, but the PCB says Rev:1.1

So far, following the howtos here http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr1043nd, i have managed to do this:

http://www.networkings.ro/img/tp-link-wr1043nd/pinout.jpg

It's easy to notice the GND, RX and TX pins connected to a DB-9 adapter, like this:

Router           DB-9
--------------------------------
1 Vcc   <---> Not Connected
2 GND <---> 5 GND
3 RX    <---> 3 TX (orange)
4 TX    <---> 2 RX (blue)

Then i start a putty on the serial port (COM7) and set 115200, 8/N/1, No flow control, but unfortunately I only get scrambled random characters:

Does anyone have any idea why this happens?
Normally this would mean that the baud rate is wrong, but to eliminate that,
I tried all the standard baud rates from 2400 to 115200 with approximately the same results.

Also, an alternative to reflash this device is welcome.

Thanks!

Of course I do. But I found an alternative. Holding the QSS button at boot time, when the system led blinks, in a few seconds will make the system led blink way faster. At this point I could telnet into 192.168.1.1 with no user/pass, and able to do a "mtd -r erase rootfs_data" resulting in a clean default system. After that I rebuilt my configs and everything rocks cool now!

The discussion might have continued from here.
