Topic: netgear wgr614 v3

I have a netgear wgr614 V3 that I would like to install/test OpenWrt on.  The board has Atheros AR2312 "All in one Wireless CPU" runs at 180Mhz. 4Megs of flash and 16Megs of ram.  I have full console access through the serial port and can get to the boot prompt.  I have a TFTP server set up running/tested.   I have OpenWrt downloaded.  Where do i go from here?

Not the best with code, but i am skilled at hardware.  I am more then willing to test new firmware's

Cool, looking foward to the new firmware.  Here is a bit of info i have aquired thus far about my WGR614 V3. (Might want to update the Hardware page)

Boot wait does exist, i have it set on my netgear:
   0x04  - don't autoboot
   0x08  - quick autoboot (no countdown)

And yes it has serial (need a hex inverter chip), that is how i was able to get the boot information.  Here is all the info i have been able to grab from the boot prompt.

Just out of pure curiosity, what is a "hex inverter chip"?

I used a 74HL14.  The 74HC14 will also work. I picked up the 74HL14 at Fry's. About $1.00
Here is a little "How To"  The Hex inverter takes all the out put data 00100110 and flips it 11011001.

Any one have a status up date on support for the Atheros 531x/231x??

Are there any plans to support the Netgear WGR614V6?  If so, I am interested in helping develop or test code for it.  I also have a unit I would be willing to donate.

The v6 is based on the Brodcom board, if I'm right (please post the FCC ID of Your unit). If You are willing to donate one, I will be happy to work on it, but please keep in mind, that the flash space is quite limited (well,at least the factory firmware is very small).

FCC ID is PY305100002.  It is based on the Broadcom chip.  Here is the CPU info from the top of the chip:

I'll post the Flash and RAM info later, but I think you are right that the flash space is quite limited in the stock model.  The nice thing though about these units is that they are selling for cheap, US $29 at Staples without any rebate roulette.

Hmm.. 8MB ram isn't a big problem, but the flash size is. We can get OpenWrt to it, but only with netboot/nfsroot support sad

netboot/nfsroot seems a reasonable approach given the size of the flash memory.

Perhaps with an sd card mod these routers would be more hopeful...? I'm not a hardware guy though...

Considering there are some sd cards going for free after rebates (plus cost of shipping=$8 @ http://www.ecost.com/ecost/shop/detail. … il,ECOSTCJ )
