Re: Asus WL600g

Hello people,
This my first post here tongue

I have an question about the adsl drivers. Is there any information about how to change them in the source code?
What i want to do is take the newest drivers from one modem's source code and compile an image with those drivers for my modem.
My modem has BCM6348 cpu too (its the Siemens sl2-141).

Thanks!

Re: Asus WL600g

I have a strange config, is it possible to match it with wl600g (custom or original firmware)?

I need to config my wl600g without an ADSL connection, using it as an extension of my wireless lan. See following chain:

Internet Router <-> eth <-> dd-wrt router <-> WiFi <-> Wl600g <-> eth <-> PC

dd-wrt is in AP/Bridge mixed mode and gives addresses (192.168.1.x with NAT). I would like to connect my wl600g to it as a client/bridge and route my lan to it.

Anyone already tried something like this? Any hints?

Thanks for any help you could provide.

Paolo.

yes i have , sort of, but it involved having routers that can do accesspoint client mode ( there is probably a fancier term) . I simple terms the wl600g has to lok like an ordinary netwrok card.

I have tenda adsl router ( wifi turned off ) giving me 192.168.1.* at its lan side this feeds webserver on hacked adm5120 , nas drive , and wan side of another tenda router. this second router gives 192.168.10.* on lan side with wifi. my pc's hang off this, including an edimax wirless router set to client mode conecting to the wifi. the edimax router wan side is ignored ( like the adsl would be in you wl600g) the wifi on it connect to the wifi in my 2nd tenda router ( this conection has been 3 different types of router in the past) the 4 lan ports on the edimax then become part of the 192.168.10.* segment . the 4 edimax lan ports act as if they are 4 more ports on the 2nd tenda. this was set up for an xbox360 down the other end of the house, I also had a URSsomething connected wirelessly the same way at the same time feeding my media player in another room. So the configuration is definately a valid one . the recieving wifi (2nd tenda ) has been a tompson528 ( i think . It is the one suplied by O2) and a dlink ap600 ( if i recall the number correctly) and these worked too. I f you have any issues it will almost definately be with the asus in client mode ( or what ever they call it if it has one that is) not all wireless routers will switch to this mode.

A lot of words an not much help smile

pale

EDIT

Well I turned on the wifi on my adsl tenda router and tried to build a bridge between it and the asus wl600g . They would not see each other . I dont know too much about bridge mode but I think I had all the settings right. Interestingly the asus bridge set up page is identicle to the tenda one word for word !  I dont think bridge is the same a access point client.

EDIT EDIT  done it sort of

adsl router tenda w548d in wireless lan settings set ssid to tenda in wireless bridge page set AP mode to access point ( I believe this leave bridge mode on) . In the tenda it has a menu that says bridge: it should be bridge restrict like the asus , set this to enable (scan).

on the asus set the ssid to asus . set the wireless ap mode to Access Point and bridge restrict to Enable (scan)

now do a scan on both so that they find each other . tick the boxes and save.

JOB DONE.....but is it. This is with all encription turned OFF. I cant get it to work with wpa

Re: Asus WL600g

dd-wrt has WDS option where you must write MAC addres of dd-wrt touter
wl600g in Wireless also have Bridge option where you can choose Enable or Enable Scan (than wl600g find wifi near himself). on wl600g you also can write MAC address of dd-wrt wifi.

use ONLY WEP or WEP128 encryption for WDS!!!!!!

AndreyPopov wrote:

Ah I didn't try wep.

Please note "bridge restrict" "disable" does not turn bridge mode off. it turns restricted bridging off. ie with this disabled any router can connect in bridge mode.

3 options

disabled .... anyone
enabled ..... just these mac addesses
enabled (scan).... search for other routers and let me just tick a box.

bridge mode .....bridge only
access point mode.... AP and bridge

If you read the poor english description on the set up page that is what it says.

Thanks for info!

[s]FYI: I'm working now with WDS and Wpa2-AES encryption enabled! Quite stable, AP enabled too.[/s]
WEP seems the only "really stable working" option for WDS interoperability. sad

I'm working on a full recompile of apps using past experience. I'm working to and I would like to publish a doc for cross compiling for wl600g too.

BTW, samba will be the hardest to build.

Re: Asus WL600g

Anyone has nvram/nvramtools (binary or sources) that works with wl600g firmware/cfe?

Would like to use it for controlling board parameters expanding wl600g RAM...

Thanks in advance,

Re: Asus WL600g

Preparing to release a new minor release of my "old" custom Firmware, I would like to update "nas" and "wlctl" to latest version available.

Now we have:

# wlctl ver
wl: 3.90 RC41.0
        wl0: Jun 10 2005 16:03:01 version 3.91.41.0

Anyone ever tried to? Anyone knows which are the latest version of these broadcom apps (eventually from other firmwares)?

Thanks in advance,
Paolo.

Re: Asus WL600g

here
http://downloads.openwrt.org/people/florian/cfe/

wl driver 4.150.10.26.cpe4.402.6

inside Bezeq firmware for ASUS am604g you can find wl driver 4.150.10.5.cpe2.0
also correctly worked sntp client (I use it on my wl-600g: first stop sntp in original than start sntp from usb flash).
also inside Bezeq firmware present nvram command!!!!!

sntp from Bezeq already present in my next release.

Tried the new wl.ko, wlctl and nvram binaries, but I got only problems. Anyone tried those? Do they work on wl600g?

Re: Asus WL600g

Anyone with Jtag available has ever tried these? I know that asus firmware is tied with jtag nvram parameters (and probably version) and I would like not to brick it.

My wl600g has version:

CFE version 1.0.37-0.8 for BCM96348 (32bit,SP,BE)
Build Date: ¤@ 2¤ë 20 18:37:34 CST 2006 (root@localhost.localdomain)
Copyright (C) 2000,2001,2002,2003 Broadcom Corporation.

Which version have yours?

Any way to get cfe version from bin file? Does operwrt flash image has cfe included? If yes, which version?

Bye,
Paolo.

if you include cfe.bin when compiled your custom firmware than all have the same cfe.

they must work, because am604g same like wl-600g only without USB ports!

OpenWRT include cfe. name of firmware image is openwrt-96348GW-generic-squashfs-cfe.bin
I think version that in florian dir

python csript to extract cfe from bin

Yes, I know. And I have firmares built both with cfe and without from asus GLP code. I'm wondering if there are newer version of cfe for wl600g that works with asus firmwares. The one on my router has limited commands without nvram option.

Depends... Some other prog could have different calls and some symbols are missed too. I had problems using them (yet non in my build).

Do you know which version of cfe does openwrt uses? If if has newer, how original firmware work after flashing back only firmware without cfe (without downgrading back it)?

Nice links, I hope they work on wl600g firmware too.

About mtd and cfe exctract procedure: asus firmware has no definition for these mtd areas like other firmware do, so it does not work. It should be redefined to work. Anyone know hot to patch mtd table to work on wl600g?

I hope that my 2nd wl600g that will be modded for ram upgrade will ship tomorrow. smile

Re: Asus WL600g

if you have some times you can:
- flash openwrt firmware
- extract cfe and compare to florian

or ask florian in PM

P.S. according to this:

[s]Any ideas if OpenWRT can be installed on the 600g even if the ADSL is not working??

The above question has been answered: http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/asus/wl600g

It is just a matter of downloading the openwrt-96348GW-generic-squashfs-cfe.bin image and flashing it via the web interface on the 600g.

looking forward to your good news about the sdram upgrade

I just yanked the 128MB hybrid module and reinstalled the old SDRAMs, and the router is working fine again.

The drivers have been installed with the help of xMiff on IRC.

I shall post the steps followed ASAP!

May I add that once the drivers have been updated to the broadcom proprietary ones the signal strength has improved greatly.

Re: Asus WL600g

Hello, I need some help.
Trying to start mpcs on that router: I have mpcs for this firmware and it Works
But to use this prog need com port.
I have usb=>com on pl2303
but i suggest that firmware doesn't suppot any usb-com converters, because there are no modules uplcom.ko and ucom.ko in /lib/modules/2.6.8.1/kernel/drivers/usb/
and anywhere else.
So qwestion: where can i find this (or any other) modules for pl2303 and how can i load them to system?

I'am not advanced Linux user, so maybe next question will be stupid:
I found the same files in Freebsd 7.2, based on Linux 2.6
I put that files to /var/harddisk/ and trying "insmod /var/harddisk/ucom.ko but get "cannot insert /blablalbla/ success <8> success"
What it means?

PS Sorry for my English
