Topic: Kimax BS-U25EWF Back to original firmware

The content of this topic has been archived on 20 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

Hello
I'm a new owner of KIMAX u 25
The router model is : Kimax-H1
The Wifi router with hdd has an alternative firmwere but I need to return to the original firmware.
The current openWrt configuration page (via  .. 192-161-1-1) allows to update firmware but the file extention for Kimax is *.bin
Seems that filetype 'bin' is not accepted.
The system I have is Windows 7.
I reviewed forums and there are description for d-link etc where the bin file with firmware must be processed. The header of the file must be cut for exact bytes.

Does anybody can help me and give a hint or desription in steps (points).
Thank you in advance.

WINSCP protocol SCP -> 192.168.1.1 or your openwrt IP ( default port 22 ) login : root password : yourpassword

copy original_software.bin in /tmp

Putty -> ssh 192.168.1.1 or your openwrt IP -> login : root password : yourpassword

cd /tmp

mtd -r write original_software.bin firmware

after reboot you have the original firmware with IP : 192.168.169.1

Hi F5BJR

Thank you for support.
I did all points except the last step:
When I entered the command:
mtd -r write kimax.bin

In results in the Putty window were listed commands of the mtd and also information:

"The device is in the format of mtdX (eg. mtd4) or its label.
mts recognizes these commands:
unlock
refresh
erase  .... "

The same information was displayed when for the test purpose I entered a wrong name of file.
Does it mean that the Lede does not recognizes the file?

my Observation:
in the root there is folder tmp  (to which I copied the kimax.bin file) and in this tmp folder is also folder tmp

Thank you in advance.
Best regars.

mtd -r write kimax.bin firmware

you can use : cat /proc/mtd and you have :

cat /proc/mtd
dev:    size   erasesize  name
mtd0: 00030000 00001000 "u-boot"
mtd1: 00010000 00001000 "u-boot-env"
mtd2: 00010000 00001000 "factory"
mtd3: 00fb0000 00001000 "firmware" <----this -----
mtd4: 0014bbe3 00001000 "kernel"
mtd5: 00e6441d 00001000 "rootfs"
mtd6: 00847000 00001000 "rootfs_data"

firmware is mtd3

for the directory it is not important once mtd can find the file

F5BJR , Thank you again.

I think that I have a wrong bin files. Probably I have to look for another one.

The original file names are:

a) KIMAX-H1-(H1系列专用)1.3.5-15-6a7620094082e0dc04bf6fd0150e75c1-R.bin
b) AX-1.3.5-(HSY-02型号专用)-5a1ed5989a517f7c0987af046b967e00-R.bin

On the  original OM configuration page of the firmware the model was displayed as KIMAX-H1
For this purpose I used first file
" KIMAX-H1-(H1系列专用)1.3.5-15-6a7620094082e0dc04bf6fd0150e75c1-R.bin "

but I hanged its name to shorter: kimax.bin

After the command:
mtd -r write kimax.bin firmware

the mesage appeard:
    root@LEDE:/tmp# mtd -r write kimax.bin firmware
    Couldn't open image file: kimax.bin!
    root@LEDE:/tmp#

The same msg appeard with the file kimax_HSY.bin
    mesage :
    root@LEDE:/tmp# mtd -r write kimax_HSY.bin firmware
    Couldn't open image file: kimax_HSY.bin!
    root@LEDE:/tmp#

Thank you again F5BJR

Your clues are very good. It worked and it works.
First i afraid that not all bin files works.

Finally one from your link worked. But even in this step after reload system I noticed login to ....Tplink
after next restart I the Kimax page appeared.

First I could open configuration Kimax router page.  But when I my PC I opened the Network environment on my PC I was asked by system to enter the password. non of them worked
So I started to change the passwords. In result now I know the password to LAN. but I lost password to router (ehh)
I tried to reset the router but seems that the reset button is not working.   (earlier it worked)
I tried to reset it few times but without result.

(Firmware I have: KIMAX-H1-1.5.2-95cb78ec634c4da22d47d9c818216ae2-R.bin)

Is it possible to reset the router out of the PC?

You can connect web page ( LAN ) ?

If yes , use my openwrt firmware ( the original firmware is very poor )

Hello ,
Fortunately I found the password.
Next I made reset router so now I have again default passwords.
F5BJR, I know that the alternative firmware is better. But in my case the alternative I had didn't allow me to add hdd  in kimax. (Was added but next it disappeared an wasn't visible on the list of added devices )

Let's come back to Kimax with the the original firmware:
           LAN is not connected.

Karta Ethernet Połączenie lokalne:
   Sufiks DNS konkretnego połączenia :
   Adres IPv4 autokonfiguracji . . . . : 169.254.133.241
   Maska podsieci. . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0
   Brama domyślna. . . . . . . . . . :

It is not good but first I would like to connect to HDD in KIMAX from my PC.
When I want to open the connection in Network , than a pop up appears asking me for :
USER and
PASSWORD

What the credentials are?
In the router I can setup only:

SSID :   KIMAX_6D1EBC
WAN pass: 12345678  (default one)

I tried all combination with the OM Kimax's passwords but they didn't worked.
(Having prevoius firmware 1.4xxx there was no popup for user/pass
Which of the fields in Kimax router refers to user/password?
Shouldn't be the same credentials to FTP?

My Internet settings in Kimax is: DHCP

Thanks in advance.

What the credentials are?
In the router I can setup only:

SSID :   KIMAX_6D1EBC
WAN pass: 12345678  (default one)

Also cannot change the network name

normal -> very poor firmware and chinese  !!
same problems for me and that's why I recompiled an openwrt firmware

for the openwrt there is no problem to share a disk on the network : tested vfat and ntfs ( read/write )

I have 4 * KIMAX box's ( 2 * BS-U25CWF and 2 * BS-U25AWF-H1 ) with the same compilation options and run without problem :

relayd
share hdd
printer USB

fstab :
config global
    option anon_swap '0'
    option anon_mount '0'
    option auto_swap '1'
    option auto_mount '1'
    option delay_root '5'
    option check_fs '0'

config mount
    option enabled '1'
    option device '/dev/sda1'
    option target '/mnt/sda1'

samba :
config samba
    option workgroup 'WORKGROUP'
    option homes '1'
    option friendly_name 'LEDE-242 Server'
    option interface 'br-lan,eth0,wlan0'
    option name 'U25AWF-H1-233'
    option description 'KIMAX-BS-U25AWF-H1-233'

config sambashare
    option browseable 'yes'
    option name 'A'
    option path '/mnt/sda1'
    option read_only 'no'
    option guest_ok 'yes'

F5BJR  I do not insist that you have to make setup on router side.

I want to ask if somebody else using KIMAX is also asked by Windows for credentials to (kimax's) network.

My first experience with Kimax was that there wasn't any request for user/password.
But if you were asked what credential did you use?
Of course I'm not asking about exact "word" but need to confirm if this is the same as for Wifi?
And What is the user name? is it the same as SSID?
Thank you in advance.
