Topic: Vote on future forum software

If there are still people left that don't read both forums - there is a vote on which forum software to use after the OpenWrt/LEDE merge:

Re: Vote on future forum software

In order to allow OpenWrt-forum users which do not read the LEDE forum to vote in a similar way as in the LEDE forum, and since the OpenWrt forum doesn't have a "poll" feature, please do the following:

----- Copy to your reply ----
I prefer the OpenWrt forum (PunBB): 0
I prefer the LEDE forum (Discourse): 0
----- /Copy to your reply ----

- Click "Post Reply"
- Copy above lines to you reply and increase the count for your vote by one
- Send reply

Example

- Previous posting:
    OpenWrt forum 42
    LEDE forum 28

- Your example vote: OpenWrt forum
- Your posting:
    OpenWrt forum 43
    LEDE forum 28

Where is my signature?

@magnum44

Please read tmo26's post and edit yours accordingly. Let's not make a mess of this. Thank you.

PS. Your signature contained an advertising link and was longer than all your posts combined, therefore it was removed.

I did log on to the lede forum with the help of my wife, but I can post on the openwrt forum by my self. The lede forum is very hard to use with a screen reader for blind people. I like to hang around here and help out when i can if the lede stile forum becomes the only place for things to do with openwrt I will not be able to take part in the community at all! Apart from #lede-dev. One other thing is that the forum over at Gargoyle is good with screen readers it's phpBB So you could look at that if people don't want to go with PunBB.

Re: Vote on future forum software

There was a mess with people posting/calculating votes, so adding my own:
I prefer the OpenWrt forum (PunBB): 5
I prefer the LEDE forum (Discourse): 4

Re: Vote on future forum software

At first I disliked Discourse dearly, especially for not-logged-in users, but by now I very much prefer the LEDE instance.

Having used both forums extensively, my opinion is that Discourse offers quite much more modern user interface and functionality. Especially the user targeting with @ is really handy in inviting package or build authors to a discussion. Similarly, adding screenshots is really easy.

Congrats dude, you for sure already won the contest for unfriendliest moderator. Instead of deleting and getting rude you should explain yourself why you counted as you did.

BUT, I am worried by https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php … 59#p370659, the screen reader incompatibility in discourse; I like discourse better than PunBB, but I not at the cost of loosing active community members like @tapper (I know does not work here).

I know that there are accesibility issues with the Discourse web ui, but there is a fully functional email<>forum gateway which should allow for seamless participation. Visiting the webui is only needed for initial signup and mail settings.

So if a blind person wants to sign up to the new forum thay have to feel like a berden when they have to ask some one with eyes to help to sign them up and help to configure any settings for them. That is if they can get some one with eyes to help. as for email yes you can post by email but what about reading the posts on the forum would i have to get all posts on the forum sent to my email address? Would that not meen lots of spam in your inbox? For all the other people that are casting votes on what forum software to use, they are saying that they like how one is set out, but what I am saying that if you go with Discourse me and at least 2 others in the community will not even be able to use the forums and will be alienated from a part of the community.
