Topic: [How-To] Trasfer a PSTN line all over the world by using two routers

The content of this topic has been archived on 25 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

This is another idea I had: transfer a PSTN line to a remote location by using two OpenWRT routers, one USB 3G dongle (optional) and one FXO device:

PSTN Line Home < Internet > PSTN Line Remote (bidirectional)

I decided to do this because I have an "All Inclusive Plan" contract for my analog (PSTN) phone line at home and want to use the line also in another location.

Note: at the remote location I don't have any internet connection available, 3G internet mobile connection will be used (very few amount of montlhy data used).
Usually a 3G mobile connections doesn't have any dedicated public IP available (NAT) and no port forwarding too, so we need an OpenVPN tunnel to let the two routers better communicate each other, also OpenVPN will secure all data trasmitted over the Internet.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First router TP-link TL-WR710N or similar (32 MB ram and 8 MB flash is the minimum):
Internet gateway for the FXO device,
OpenVPN server,
+ Voip FXO device.

Note: for the FXO device I used the Voispeed_V-6019, but any FXO will do the job.
You'll find here instructions how to set up the V-6019 FXO device (in Italian):

Second router Huawei EchoLife HG553 (Vodafone Station 1):
3G mobile internet connection,
OpenVPN client,
Asterisk server,
2 FXS analog outputs.

Note: you'll find here how to enable and set up the two FXS ports on this router:

To be continued very soon ...
