Topic: no keyboard input in bootloader

The content of this topic has been archived on 16 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

I'm confused!!

Dont know whats wrong with my
Kingston MLW-221.

I've build a new Openwrt Image with Imagebuilder.
Not my first. I've made a few Images for my Routers and of course for my Mlw-221,too.
But with the last image something goes wrong.
Especialy with the wlan drivers.(see bootlog)

Ok, i know how to soldering a serial connector and ethernet connection on my kingston.
So i plugged in my Win10 Laptop and setup a tftp.
At next i started Putty with 57600 81 noflow and know comes the Problem.....i see the bootscreen but i ve no reaction of any input on my laptop, and cant boot over tftp.

Even if i try failsafe i think ive a chance to repair.
Failsafe with reset button.
But when i try it, the booting never ends,
it will initialise a pool and hangs at this.

And know i dont know how to pull a Image on the mlw221.
How to solver this?

Especialy with the wlan drivers.(see bootlog)

Nothing in your bootlog talks about wireless radio devices or drivers. Is the bootlog incomplete?

Maybe check for weak solder joints? The serial line settings are at least close to correct since you see cleartext output from the bootloader.

[   71.100000] random: nonblocking pool is initialized

Sorry, but now bootlog is complete.
Until the Point, the device hang up.

Yes i've check the kabels and solder points, on both sides. Get them from the device, get new kabel, but its always the same Result...no input :-(

Some TP-Links don't have a physical connection of the serial input unless you add a resistor or wire.  Maybe this one is similar.

If you connect the TX and the RX of your adapter together (no connection to a router), you should see what you type.

This appears to be a normal boot, other than no wifi driver.  Can you log in over Ethernet?

It ends with the line "[   71.100000] random: nonblocking pool is initialized"
and no command prompt is showing.
Cant get access over ethernet, but i can see it in my Network Adapters with a bizarr ip like 168.152.xxx

Ok thanks. Thats an solution approach.
Rx with Tx, i'll try it.
My Chip is the PL2303.

The shell that gives you a command prompt isn't launched until a CR is received on the serial port.

what is the manufacture of the keyboards?

Mediatek
SoC Ralink MT7620N ver:2 eco:3

I supposed it can only be a problem with the soldering points.
Thanks for confirmation.
So i will have to search my glasses and lets get soldering...again.

Ok, i'm not a dirty solder or something, soldering points looks Ok,not dirty.
But after I cleaned the soldering points and fix them again it works! Input and Output.
So with a tftp server i'm able to drop a factory image to the device and all works like charm.

Thanks  mk24 and the others for solvering.

The only Problem for me now is, that i dont know whats wrong with my make command.

That's the command!
I want to use an Edimax EW 7811un as second wifi and my Bluetooth stick and a D-link Ethernet USB Adapter(Pegasus Chip inside). Not using at the same time, but i want to be able to change wifi to bluetooth on the go, or with a reboot.

Or did you think thats to much for the device?
