Topic: TL-WR741nd Serial Connection Issue (Blank Screen)

The content of this topic has been archived on 14 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

I've bricked my TP-Link TL-WR741nd and I've bought the PL2303 USB to RS232 adapter.

I have soldered on 3 wires to the motherboard, RX, TX and GND as it showed on the Wiki diagram. This is a v2.4 board. Anyways, the solders are not the cleanest ones but they *should* work.

However, when I plug in the adapter and open putty with the correct bit rate, I get a blank screen. I've checked if by any chance I've switched wires but all of them go from TX to TX, RX to RX and GND to GND.

I don't know what else to try.

Regards,

Reverse the TX & RX leads on the adapter.

Tried this just now same thing, the serial window is still blank. To be sure, I re-soldered all of the connections even on the USB adapter but still same issue.

Any help is much appreciated.

The driver for the USB device is certainly installed...

I am quite certain the driver I installed is working. Considering that this is not a proper Prolific adapter I did have an error code 10 with a newer driver so I downgraded to an older one and was able to connect to it over putty.

However I decided to test out the adapter it self, so I soldered on the pins to a working 741nd but the result was the same blank console.

No clue as to error code 10 would be but naturally is the correct COM port set as the PuTTY session Serial line value.

The discussion might have continued from here.
