Topic: Openwrt firmware for xiaomi mi router 3

The content of this topic has been archived on 6 May 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

Hi guys,
This moment, openwrt support for xiaomi mi router 3 ( ac1200  model ) ?
I see it use chipset mt7620a. The same with xiaomi mi wifi
Tks bro

Don't see it listed. https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/xiaomi/start

But just based on the chipset that you mention, it sounds that it could be made supportable.

Do you have a serial cable connected? Can you get an OEM bootlog? Do you have photos? Can you confirm the chipsets on the board? Amount of flash and RAM? The more detail, the more chance you have.

I found this but no clue about wifi or network or USB

Wi-Fi SoC – Mediatek MT7620A @ 580MHz
System Memory – 128 MB DDR2
Storage – 128 MB SLC NAND Flash

Are you able to unbrick it and go back to the original firmware without a serial able?

im afraid i cant because i dont have a serial cable sad

i tried, but as my image, i dont see name Firmware or OS1 with dev . So when i type mtd -r -write firmware.bin firmware or OS1 failed
"Could not open mtd device : firmware . Can't open device for writing"
"Could not open mtd device : OS1 . Can't open device for writing"

Hey guys,

I do own this router, too and really hate it having only chinese firmware at the moment. Only cure at the moment is using the translator in Chrome.
So I'd like to contribute to get this thing working with openwrt. But someone would have to give me detailed instructions how to connect the TTL pins and what to do then with which program to get the log out of it.
At the moment I don't own a USB-TTL cable but I'm pretty sure that I should be able to lend one in the university (department electrical engineering).

Greetings,
Eddga

- Edit -
Just found this. Maybe this is all you need? It's a teardown guide and the guy connected to the serial port and also posted the serial log he got there.

Stealing a couple of good bits in case they become unavailable.

i dont find thank button guys smile

There has just another thread been opened about the same issue. Maybe they should be merged or one should be closed with a pointer in a last post pointing to the other one as providing informations twice is pretty senseless and counter-productive. tongue

There are detailed pictures imported some posts above which show all the internal hardware. So what is it that you still need a photo of?

Have you tried this?

I can confirm, my router just bricked this morning because of the auto-update feature from xiaomi. Tried using two flash disk (both are 8 GB, FAT32 formatted, MBR and not GPT), and it's working for me.

Hi,

this is my first post here at OpenWrt - so please sorry for noob questions.
I think about to buy the Xiaomi Wifi 3 Router and want to install OpenWrt. I look and search but find not a good how to install.
Can anybody tell me step for step instructions to install OpenWrt on the Wifi 3 router? Does it works stable?

Well it is based on Openwrt so I guess it support it, I need to know if I can use transmission it ?

The discussion might have continued from here.
