Topic: Netgear EX2700 bricked?

The content of this topic has been archived on 30 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

Today i've decided to upgrade my Netgear EX2700 to OpenWRT.

Settings are:
WiFi Repeater
IP 192.168.0.253
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway/DNS/DHCP: 192.168.0.1

This is the official page: https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/netgear/netgear_ex2700

I've downloaded the first image, from factory to WRT: https://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots … actory.bin

Then, i used the Netgear web-based firmware upgrade utility.

I think i made a big error: i've upgraded the firmware via WiFi from my current LAN.
I've done it before to newest Netgear releases, but never to OpenWRT.

Upgrade seems successfully done. Seems..
Repeater rebooted.
Then i plug LAN cable directly from my laptop to repeater to config the new firmware.
I plug my laptop and i get IP via DHCP to 192.168.1.168.
And the repeater has 192.168.1.1 (as OpenWRT default).

I've tried to access via web at 192.168.1.1 but i get timeout.

I've tried to ping 192.168.1.1 via CMD (in Windows7 x64), and i get <1ms ping.

So, HTTP goes timeout but ping is ok.

Is it bricked?
How can i recover it?

I try to upload the same OpenWRT image via TFTP with no success (timeout).
I try to reach 192.168.1.1 via Telnet, with no success (timeout).
SSH with Putty -> timeout

I try to change my ip from dynamic to fixed 192.168.1.2 with no success.

I don't understand why Repeater DHCP works, LAN led works and blink, but i cannot reach the Repeater in anyway except ping.

Thank you in advanced.
Best regards
Federico

RTFW

I read that link several times,
with no success.
Maybe same for my thread. smile

For example: login with telnet.
Don't work. Simple.
cmd -> telnet -> open 192.168.1.1 23 -> timeout on port 23.
(with Putty, same)

Login to WebUI: as i said before --> timeout

Incorrect. The post, in contrast to the wiki, was understood.

Tests weren't only telnet. Read again.
Web(HTTP), SSH (obviously at first login), TFTP (on two clients) produces same results: timeout.

There's no other things on Wiki. wink

Dove?

SSH don't work!
So there are other few method to access. None working for me.

My primary doubt was upgrading from wifi. I cannot find any warning about that on wiki.

What does nmap 192.168.1.1 show?

Mille scuse!

Thanks Xotic,
Nmap shows port 22 and 53 opened.

Now i've access via SSH because i've disabled Windows Firewall.
I've already changed password.
So, great, router is not bricked. smile smile smile

Still no access via HTTP.
May i have to install Luci?
It's a bit tricky without internet connection.

Anyway, i've to disable DHCP and config a new default IP to 192.168.0.253, so i can access from my LAN (and have internet too).

Any advice how?
