Topic: Xiaomi Mini PandoraBox R2 14.09 (5G WiFi won´t autostart)

The content of this topic has been archived on 14 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

Hello, i am new in openwrt, i am using PandoraBox R2 14.09 (latest stable) on Xiaomi Mini router, and 2,4G Wifi is working FIne, it load up after reboot, but 5G wifi won´t autostart. I have to start it manually via admin UI. Can you please help me where is the problem? Thanks smile

If I saw correctly, Witi Board has same chipset, same 2.4 and same 5.8 radio sa Xiaomi Mini router. Right?

So maybe only some code exchange between Witi Board image and Xiaomi is needed...

I don't have this problem after reboot with this version, both 2,4GHz and 5Ghz autostart.

Hmm Thanks for info, where can be the problem?

No ideas, perhaps you should try to reset the router to default settings. At least when I upgraded from 12.091 to 14.09 via web, the router didn't work properly after the upgrade until I reset it.

I try it several times.  You mean reset from UI or reset via button on router?

Didn´t help. When I starting 5G manually sometimes it show me some error msg. So i must repat this step. Or disable it, and enable agan, until it boots hmm

I meant reset via UI. Well, then maybe you should try to flash 14.09 firmware again or maybe to roll back to older stable firmware from March or to some newer firmware from testing directory. I see the last fw from testing directory is dated 21-Jul-2015 and nothing newer there.

Yes, i was thinking about that, but on forum: http://en.miui.com/thread-64391-25-1.html i am not just only one with this problem. That´s why i am asking how can i fix it smile. And i have many cusotm setting on my openwrt, and i don´t know how to backup all setings + plugins etc hmm. Thanks for you reply wink

By the way, I forgot to mention, but I have a little bit similar problem related with WiFi on PandoraBox R2 14.09 as well. The problem is that if I set WPS setting to "Disable", it's disabled indeed. But if I reboot the router - I see that this that WPS is enabled again (I see it by my smarthpone and by other devices) ! Even though, in the router interface I still see it's "Disabled". The only way to disable it again is to set "PBC", to apply the settings, then to set "Disable" and to apply the settings again. But this works until the next reboot !
Moreover this issue is the same on both 2,4 and 5G interfaces !

I'm not sure if this WPS is potentially vulnerable or not in our case, but this seems to be a bug. Of course reset to defaults doesn't solve this. Could anybody check this, please ? Perhaps it's solved in some fw from "Testing" folder ?

Thanks but i don´t understand it at all. I am from SLovakia, i am using channel 40 and i set country code to "SK". Can anybody write step by step what to do in this case? Thanks smile

I have just this in my log - "Mon Jan 18 17:47:13 2016 daemon.notice netifd: rai0 (1389): ifconfig: SIOCSIFFLAGS: Operation not permitted

If you set the CN country code, do you still experience this issue ?

Hello again, yes, the same situation. Now when i clicked saved and apply a get this error:
ailed to execute arcombine dispatcher target for entry '/admin/network/wireless/rai0.network1'.
The called action terminated with an exception:
?:0: attempt to index field 'hwmodelist' (a nil value)
stack traceback:
    [C]: in function 'assert'
    ?: in function 'dispatch'
    ?: in function <?:194>

So i cant save settinga i must repeat it few times until i can save it.

Well, then what I would do in your case is:
Reset to Defaults, then leaving default CN country code, leaving WiFi channels in Auto, all this to check if the problem still persists with these settings.

I'm pretty sure the fw doesn't know the SK code (Slovakia). In the best case it knows CZ, but I still have doubts if it knows even CZ. So, there is a chance that once you set unknown SK once, you get the issue, moreover you mentioned you set the channel manually due to some reasons. E.g. I'm from Latvia, but I've never minded to check if it knows LV, moreover I know CN and US have more power in mW allowed than it is allowed in LV, so no any reason to check LV smile

Btw, I'm still fighting with this, perhaps you could check this, since you have the same fw flashed: http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=redire … id=3955346 , the post 249#

Thanks for your reply.

At first: I already try reset via UI. The problem is the same, it does not solved it.

I am not facing problem like in post #249. I am using WPA2 and after reboot i still see WPA2 - its ok.

I have flashed this FW: http://downloads.openwrt.org.cn/Pandora … CM/stable/
PandoraBox R2 14.09 / LuCI Trunk (0.12+svn-r1024)

Maybe try last "testing" FW ? PandoraBox-ralink-mt7620-xiaomi-mini-squashfs-s..> 21-Jul-2015 19:05      8M

How can i flash it? Just via UI? I don´t want´t brick my router smile Thank you very much for your help!

And can you help me, how can i backup all my current FW with my custom settings? For easy recovery? And how Can i recover it?
(Just in case, if nopt help "testing" fw.) But i would like to backup all my settings and import them in new FW, is it possible?

(Last edited by kaper on 19 Jan 2016, 09:10)

You mean the same issue with CN and Auto channel for 5G ?

No ideas regarding flashing new FW. But: I've upgraded from some old Pandora 12.xx to PandoraBox R2 14.09 via web. But after that I was constrained to perform factory Reset To Defaults of the router, as after the upgrade to 14.09 everything worked improperly (e.g. wired LAN-interfaces didn't start). But this was probably because there was too large gap between the FW versions, anyway Reset To Defaults solves this.

Not sure if you could backup anyhow.

Yes i mean 5G CN. Hmm thanks, if anybody knows how to fix that i appreciate it. At now, i don´t have so much time to play with FW tongue. If i have no confirmed if it is working or not hmm and i have so many custom settings.

Hello, i am back on Pandorabox R2 14.09.

Can anybody please help me, how can i bring up 5G radio on boot up?

I found, that i can bring up manually my 5G up with this command:

wifi up rai0

Can you please help me, how can i start this command every after reboot? (Into Scheduled Tasks via Luci UI?)
Instantly after reboot or 1 or 2 minutes later, after system boots up....

THANKS

/edit: Ok, i added this line into etc/rc.local file and seems it is working fine ! Finally.... But if are anybody interest too, is there any other way how to do it?
