Topic: ZyXEL WAP3205 v2 - How to install?

The content of this topic has been archived on 3 May 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

Hi guys,

i have to get OpenWrt on 2 of the AccessPoints described in the Topic. Since they're systems seem to have not enough functionallity for our purposes.
I really tried to follow the instructions on this post (http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/zyxel/nbg419n) i bought a Console Cable for Raspberry Pi and opened the case. So far, everything was fine.

But the description about the file transfer and connection via TFTP server is simply too inaccurate for me. I've got no clue about how to do it. Can someone please post a tutorial video or a precise instruction? How to use, wich program and where to specify the dataflow parameters, etc.

Thanks in advance,
Fidoro. (sry for bad english)

*push*
Please, can anybody help?
I really need this to be done.

Maybe someone has a better way to flash OpenWRT to the device.
Maybe the creator of the post from the wiki can contact me?
Who was this anyway?

Thanks,
Fidoro.

If ZyXEL WAP3205 v2 == ZyXEL NBG419N v2
there exists topic for porting openwrt to the device.

Yes right. It's the same device.
However, there is no precise instruction on how to install it.
I haven't even got on wich interface the TFTP has to run.
Serial? Lan?
I am so lost with this.

But thanks for your try smile

Ok. There isn't support for the device yet but you can try firmware from that topic.

However, there is no precise instruction on how to install it.

Serial? Lan?

Usually firmware is loaded through lan interface with serial console control.
If you already have serial cable the procedure is simple enough to explain here.

First: Thank you for helping me smile

And yes, i got a Serial Cable, and i know how to and where to connect it.

Now i just need someone to explain the procedure.

Edit: Okay, I found out how to connect to the serial console via putty. But I don't know any furher.

If you connect correctly show original firmware boot log.

So, I connected via serial console on COM16, and let it start up.
This ist all output:

Ok. As expected your device use standard u-boot loader. You can see u-boot menu at the beginning of log. This menu contain emergency recovery, so I recommend to search description of this recovery procedure (just for garanted way to restore original zyxel firmware).
Next steps for flashing openwrt firmware:
1. Interrupt boot and get u-boot command promt (hit '4' in boot menu).
2. In u-boot console setup ip configuration. Usually '?' - generic help, printenv/setenv - see/show params. We interested in 'ipaddr' and 'serverip' - address of router and tftp-server (your PC).
3. Prepare your PC (setup static ip-address == serverip), install tftp-server (e.g tftp32.exe for windows) and put firmware (e.g 'firmware.bin') to tftp-server directory.
4. Prepare flash (typically 'erase linux' command - see output of '? erase' in u-boot promt).
5. Connect PC and router with ethernet cable.
6. With u-boot command 'tftpboot 80100000 firmware.bin' get firmware from PC to RAM.
7. With u-boot command 'cp.linux 80100000' write firmware fom RAM to flash chip.
8. Reboot.
WARNING!!! After successful step 4 your router loose any firmware so to restore you need get success in steps 5-7 or use emergency recovery procedure from zyxel!

Thank you. Everything worked like you said.

This is new output after hitting 'restart' in the console.

Does this say, everything worked fine?

No. You flash sucssesfully firmware for Zyxel nbg-419n but it can't work with your flash chip. Your need flash firmware from the topic above pointed (there exists url for nbg-419n v2).
And  good news - you now can flash any firmware from serial console (including original zyxel firmware) smile

Which exactly? I used this one: http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/ … pgrade.bin. I can't find any other (neither in the post) which seem to be suitable for the device.

If you carefully read the topic you see this link.
Just start with openwrt-ramips-rt305x-nbg419v2-bb-rc3-squashfs-sysupgrade.v7.bin
If leds or buttons work incorrectly, I'll patch image for your model. But our main target is to start openwrt firmware in your device.

Hello,

How is it going ? Did you get it work ? I bought a wap3205 V2 and like to install openwrt. Do you get switch (AP/UR/CL) working ?

The discussion might have continued from here.
