Topic: Support for Asus RT-AC68U?

The content of this topic has been archived on 7 May 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

Is support for this router possible in the near future?

What SoC? Give us some link, don't be lazy.

I'm thinking of buying this router.

I'm interested too in OpenWrt support...any news?

Is there someone willing to try & install OpenWrt on this device? I could prepare an image.

M3m3nt0: the biggest problem is obviously wireless support sad Everything else is already supported or will be in the nearest future.

I'm willing to try but I'd prefer to tftboot the image instead of flashing it on the device.

Tonight I'll try to attach a serial cable to the thing.

this is the dmesg (currently there is dd-wrt on it). I will post the CFE loader log when I'll figure out how I can open the case.

Nice. Can you provide also "nvram show | grep gpio"?

sure, here it is:

reset_gpio=11
gpio7=wps_button
gpio9=usbport1

I fear however that a button behind the router is not mapped: it's a switch to turn on/off a white led that works in the original firmware but doesn't in dd-wrt.

I uploaded the "chaos_calmer" RC2 firmware on my Asus RT-AC56U, but the 5GHz 802.11ac component (BCM4352) fails.

Unfortunately, I'm not even sure which driver to use for this. As far as I can tell, Broadcom has released a proprietary driver for use with Linux; though, I'm not sure if that driver supports the newest wifi standard; what the exact name of it is; whether or not it's available to be installed from the "openwrt" repos...

I've loaded the openwrt firmware, but don't see any wireless support...

Am i missing something?

So Zajec, 5Ghz not working but 2.4Ghz yes right? also, there is any chance to install Original drivers (like dd-wrt uses) over openwrt?

Im buying a EA6300v1, and have similar hardware to this device.

This message is for Zajec (or anyone else on the list):  Are there OpenWRT compatible drivers for the 2.4 and 5GHz wireless interfaces on the Asus RT-AC68U?  If so, can you direct me where to find them?  Thanks

The last message posted was 2 years ago for this router!  Can someone update folks about the status of OpenWRT/LEDE working on the ASUS RT68U?  For example, can the LEDE 17.01.4 release will work on it?  The techspec page is useless and there is only information from several YEARS ago.  Anyone know an update?

I'm also interested this information and I'm using Asus RT-ac68u E1.
I only find row with this model in the table with supported versions.
So we can think that the leatest version LEDE 17.01.4 supports Asus Rt-ac68u, but there is no information about version.
On the openwrt page of this router there is no confirmation about success.
Can somebody confirm that Lede version works on this router?

I think that there is no changes with support.

Devices with Broadcom WiFi chipsets have limited LEDE supportability (due to limited FLOSS driver availability for Broadcom chips). Consider this when chosing a device to buy, or when deciding to flash LEDE on your device because it is listed as supported. See broadcom_wifi for details.
I read this
openwrt.org/toh/hwdata/asus/asus_rt-ac68u
and this:
openwrt.org/meta/infobox/broadcom_wifi

Why should the Techdata page be useless?
https://openwrt.org/toh/hwdata/asus/asus_rt-ac68u

It gives you information about support and links for downloading OpenWrt images, therefore I don't understand your statement.

Because there has been no change to wifi support on this router. This is largely a problem of broadcom with no proper open source support

It'd probably be best to run AsusWRT Merlin on this.

The discussion might have continued from here.
