Topic: Update on Linksys WRT1900AC support

The content of this topic has been archived between 16 Sep 2014 and 7 May 2018. Unfortunately there are posts – most likely complete pages – missing.

No fan -- that sounds like a plus. I'm not sure how the IPC of the two processors differs though.

The 385 is built on a 28nm process vs the 40nm process of the Armada XP in the WRT1900AC v1, so it's likely using a lot less power.

Perhaps this is silly question, but is it possible just to replace old CPU with new one?)

Yup, by buying the new router smile

seriously though i dont think so as its probably soldered on the board.

Browsing around the root filesystem I cannot help wondering how the heck they ended up wasting space on this driver:

No, I do not believe they intend to support any of those devices.

I did the same mistake as you...

the firmware was corrupted after the upgrade and it cannot set dhcp and wifi driver.

To recover just plug a ethernet cable in the router and set a static IP on your computer.

Go to the web interface and reflash to v1 stock firmware

http://downloads.linksys.com/downloads/ … 1_prod.img

It solved the problem for me

V2 has no fan, lower power usage and higher CPU clock.

Product comparison between the Linksys WRT1900AC and WRT1900AC v2.

Does anybody know if the v2 firmware can be used on the v1 router?

@silca

No.

Thanks for the suggestion, however, I was never able to connect to the IP.  Hopefully the cable gets here today.

Is there anything the devs want me to screen capture before I restore it once I get the TTl cable?

Thanks for the reply @nitroshift. Just for my clarification, is that no, it can't be used, or no, we don't know if it can be used with v1 HW?

I've looked through this thread a bit but not the entire thing and looked elsewhere as well. I'm running stock firmware, haven't done anything to it at all. A few times my router just quit working. It won't broadcast and the ethernet quits working as well. LEDs stay on but I have to unplug it for a minute or two before it starts working. If I just restart it the power and another LED (I forget which) just come on and it doesn't do it's normal LED flashing boot up. I've heard how awful the stock firmware is. I always planned to use OpenWRT but my question is is this a hardware issue or a firmware issue?

I managed to get a co-worker to unload their WRT1900AC to me for $80, I know I trashed mine about 40 forum pages ago.....lol.......BUT, after implementing the ASUS RT-3200, and recently the Netgear R8000 Nighthawk(This one is sweet!), I cannot deny the horsepower of the WRT1900AC. I am going to use it as main gateway etc., and branch off the other two for other stuff. Anyway, my question, is everyone finding the img here, https://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots … /generic/, stable? I will be disabling the wireless etc. Please let me know what you all are finding.

EDIT:

@gufus

I apologize if I missed your post, but does your ad blocking still work as well on the newer images? if so, can you post it. or the link to it?

All the best.

@silca

No, it will not work.

As far as the AD Blocking I can tell you before I bricked it yesterday the ad blocking was working great.  I was on Kaloz's latest

All the new WRT routers have their own firmware images in trunk, you have to use the right one.

WRT1900AC(v1) - Mamba
WRT1900ACv2 - Cobra
WRT1200AC - Caiman

Not here

Try a new /etc/config/openvpn file

Try this:
config openvpn 'xyz_vpn'
    option proto 'udp'
    option dev_type 'tun'
    option nobind '1'
    option persist_key '1'
    option port '1194'
    option client '1'
    option reneg_sec '0'
    option dev 'tun1'
    option persist_tun '1'
    option remote '10.4.0.1 255.255.255.0'
    option remote_random '0'
    option verb '5'
    option mute '20'
    option ca '/etc/openvpn/ca.crt'
    option cert '/etc/openvpn/server.crt'
    option key '/etc/openvpn/server.key'
    option log_append '/var/log/openvpn.log'
    option cipher 'BF-CBC'
    option auth 'SHA1'
    option tls_client '1'
    option tun_mtu '1500'
    option mtu_disc 'yes'
    option auth_retry 'nointeract'
    option resolv_retry 'infinite'
    option fast_io '1'
    option pull '0'
    option ifconfig '10.10.0.1 255.0.0.0'
    option up '/root/set-client_iptables'
    option down '/root/del-client_iptables'
    option script_security '2'

I took a stab at updating the wiki to include the v2 information.  I'm assuming that the v2 models are shipping since firmware has been released, but I haven't been able to confirm the exact processor or memory.  If anyone has that info and can make the appropriate updates, it would be appreciated.

I finished up my serial port install on the WRT1900AC this evening, snapped a few pics.  I'm waiting on higher access to the wiki so that I can upload images directly rather than linking them externally, but here's a sneak peak at the finished look:

http://wrightthisway.com/images/WRT1900AC_Serial_Outside.jpg

I'm using a MAX3232 breakout board on the inside, along with a proper JST PH6 connector going to the built in header, and from there going to a Philmore 3.5mm jack.  Externally, I found a DB9/3.5mm cable, these aren't common, but easy enough to find online, and run this to a standard USB/DB9 serial adapter.

As soon as I can upload images into the wiki, I'll put a full writeup there with a few more pics.

@Kaloz

There's a new kernel release (3.18.12) and I was wondering if you could push that to trunk.

Cheers!
