Topic: Update on Linksys WRT1900AC support

I was wondering if anyone has an update to the status of the openwrt on WRT1900AC.

I have been using the Belkin branch at https://github.com/jimmychungbelkin/Mamba for a week and am pretty happy.... In my use case it is already quite a bit more usable than the stock firmware installed on the WRT1900AC!

In an interesting related piece of news Marvell released a data sheet on one of their NAS chips.  ( http://linuxgizmos.com/marvell-lifts-cu … r-nas-soc/ )

Is the goal for the Belkin branch to be merged into upstream openwrt or is the openwrt community happening seperately?

In the meantime, should we report issues to https://github.com/jimmychungbelkin/Mamba/issues ?

You can choose either Attitude Adjustment (My fav) or Barrier Breaker (Bleeding Edge)

Upload the firmware using the WRT1900AC Stock UI firmware upload feature.

I recommend downloading a copy of the Linksys stock firmware for easy access just in case you need it.

Thanks everyone. So I've flashed with AA and wireless isn't working well. I can't find anything in the wiki that shows the GUI that this firmware has. I went to wifi and it says mode is unknown for both radios.

What do I select under Network? LAN, Wan, Wan6? I've different ones and haven't had any luck. None of my wireless devices are connecting to the router. I've named it the same SSID and pw as my old router.

Another thing is that certain websites aren't loading and the overall speed is sluggish.

EDIT: I changed the DHCP to auto and my router crashed. Couldn't connect after multiple reboots and hard reboots. It was pretty much bricked. Followed the generic debrick wiki and couldn't connect to it via Telnet. Tried this post below:

OpenWRT on the 1900AC is pretty much alpha quality at this point. The wireless  information being a bunch of ? is one of the current bugs. There are also WiFi drops and making the router inaccessible via the web ui is extremely easy to do.

I would recommend sticking with the stock firmware unless you are willing to crack open the case and use a serial adapter to reflash the firmware when it gets messed up.

Yeah, I saw a post about needing a USB to TTL cable. I'm a bit disappointed that OpenWrt isn't fully implemented; the reason I bought this router was for OpenWrt. I guess I'll wait til it becomes more stable.

Sadly Belkin was claiming OpenWRT support long before they actually got in contact with the developers to get things ready. Currently they've submitted patches multiple times that don't meet the requirements to be merged into trunk.

Apparently the developers have been given the hardware they need to work on getting things up to snuff, but there's no ETA on when there will be a fully compatible stable build sad

Guess I'll just try to hold off on installing it until a stable release is available sad

Amazing.  I don't own one of these routers yet but I have to say that it is disappointing that Linksys touted full OpenWRT support AND RELEASED this router to market, before meeting all the OpenWRT developer needs.

In my experience the problem is a lack of understanding between marketing, legal and engineering about what should happen. Engineering departments are usually pretty level headed. Marketing departments say whatevery they need to say to move product. Legal departments tend to slap anyone's hands who come too near their "proprietary information.

In this case, the engineering department seems to be operating in good faith. Slower than we might like but, still in good faith. The Marketing department got ahead of themselves and claimed OpenWrt compatibility prematurely (oops). The problem seems to be legal. They are not approving the release of information or unable to work with 3rd parties such as Marvell to release the necessary information.

An interesting data point is that the official public Belkin tree seems to be maintain by Veriksystem.... The is a pretty good chance that Belkin developers have sign enough non-disclosure agreements during their careers that Belkin must outsource the the openwrt on wrt1900AC work to a independent contractor.

Possibly, but it's crazy to advertise your product as open source compatible without sign off from legal and Marvell's legal.

Has anyone noticed any problems with ipv6... I was experiencing a lot of crash, and I would loose connectivity to only certain devices. After disabling ipv6, things seem more stable.
