Hi,

I have a 3G dongle (huawei e3236) which uses the cdc_ether module to work..When plugged to a pc, it creates automatically a new interface and connects to internet. I have installed Openwrt and installed the cdc_ether kernel module also.. But when plugged, the dongle doesn't seem to connect and doesn't create a new interface.. What should i do ?

this is not my field, so take it as a guess: is it similar to what you need for usb tethering with a smartphone?

No, i tried that but not working..

posting dmesg and logread could help someone solve this wink

It shows that and stops..(usb modeswitch is installed)

usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using rt3883-ehci and address 5
usb 1-1: selecting invalid altsetting 1
scsi3 : usb-storage 1-1:1.0
scsi 3:0:0:0: CD-ROM            HUAWEI   Mass Storage     2.31 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2
scsi 3:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg0 type 5

it seems that modeswitch does not kicks in for this device..

is it possible you need sg3-utils?

(i know it's for RPi, but seems possible you have to do the same..)

http://www.techmind.org/rpi/

look in section "Getting the mobile-broadband dongle installed/recognised by the Pi"

is your 3g device a HiLink modem? similar to E3256 used in that tutorial?

The discussion might have continued from here.
