Topic: Linksys WRT300N-V1.1 Support

I did a little google searching and found https://dev.openwrt.org/ticket/6379 which says that Kamakazie R18921 fully supports the Linksys WRT300N-v1.1,  Yes the supported devices list does not reflect this and I don't see any reference to Attitude Adjustment or Backfire supporting this device.  Can anyone suggest?

Well I have downloaded and tried the following:

Anyone with a Linksys WRT300N-V1.1 that works on OpenWrt please enlighten me as to what you are running.

For the stable ethernet support (and generally "everything") it may be the best idea to install BB (which is trunk AKA snapshot) right now.

Can you install version from http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/brcm47xx/ (but please make a clean install, not an upgrade) and see if it works for you? If it doesn't, please provide full boot log (you have serial console, that's great!).

Bottom Line - NO JOY WITH TRUNk BB, Steps Taken and Boot Log from Serial Below:

OK downloaded http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/ … uashfs.bin and proceeded to flash/install.

Step 1 - Apply power with Serial Console connected and press <Ctril-C> to get CFE> prompt.

Step 2 - At CFE Prompt enter command "nvram erase".

Step 3 - Command returns code 0 meaning successful compeltion.

Step 4 - At CFE Prompt enter command "flash -ctheader : flash1.trx"

Step 5 - At same time as CFE prompt command is entered start tftp2 serving file http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/ … uashfs.bin to unit.

Step 6 - wait thru several reboots and see that install was a success, but the eth0 still fails to work.

Step 7 - Remove Power, close serial session and open a fresh serial session with logging.

Step 8 - apply power and wait till serial output ends.

Step 9 - Close serial session and post log after this message.  COULD NOT FIND ATTACH FEATURE SO POSTING LOG BELOW:

I think this tells us something about this bug:

It seems tg3 believes there is no switch attached to the SoC. I'll ask Hauke about that, I don't really have much experience with tg3.

Thanks I'll keep watching for an update.  I really would like to get this switch running OpenWrt sometime.  It ran DDWrt-mini version just fine, but that would not support ipv6 and I'd like to move the LAN to IPv6 for learning sake.

This looks like the switch reset performed a device reset, it is probably using the wrong pin. I saw in a other switch driver some special workaround for this device.

I am correct in asuming that I need the full buildroot and sources to apply the patch and will have to generate my own openwrt-wrt300b-v11.bin file for flashing?

Ok I have a buildroot VM setup and have built openwrt 2x so far.  Now how and where do I place your patch.  The wiki instructions {http://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/devel/patches} are less than clear about importing an existing patch.  A little help would be appreciated.

Just apply it in the root of OpenWrt's repo. Like "git am wrt300n-b53.patch"

well placing the patch in ~/Downloads/wrt300n-b53.patch and then switching to ~/openwrt/trunk and runing the command git am ~/Downloads/wrt300n-b53.patch fails for fatal: not a git repository. 

Now if I place the patch in ~/openwrt/trunk/target/linux/generic/patches-3.12  as 780-openwrt-b53.patch and after returning to ~/openwrt/trunk/ I run make target/linux/update package/index V=s followed by make.  I get what I think is the patched bin file.  Does this sound about right someone?

just go cd into the directoru ~/openwrt/trunk
and apply the patch: git am ../wrt300n-b53.patch

How did you get OpenWrt source if not using git? svn? If so, you can try
patch -p1 < ~/Downloads/wrt300n-b53.patch

Zajec the patch -p1 command appears to work. a least patch was applied and source is rebuilding.

boblfoot: can you edit your post and put bootlog inside [code] tag, please?

boblfoot: please type "make menuconfig", enter: Target Profile and select "Broadcom SoC, all Ethernet, No WiFi". Then recompile and try again. I think it may be b43 that causes these reboots for you.

well the build without wireless still jsut reboots.

The fact is some GPIO can (doesn't have to, but can) reset your device. I can imagine 3 things touching GPIOs:
1) b53 (switch driver)
2) b43 (wireless driver)
3) diag (helper for LEDs and buttons)

We are 100% sure it's not b43 fault in this case. b53 should not do it too (with Hauke's patch), but I'm not 100% sure about that yet. diag in theory initializes much earlier (10s before the reboot), but who knows...

Just for sure, could you do additional tests, please?
1) Switch Target Profile to "Broadcom SoC, bgmac Ethernet, No WiFi" - this will disable tg3 and b53 won't init
2) Recompile and test
[if above doesn't help, then continue]
3) Enter Kernel modules → Other modules → disable "kmod-diag" (no "M" or "*" next to it, just "< >")
4) Recompile and test

If above also won't help (router still rebooting), then my last idea is that there is some hardware watchdog that believes Linux stopped working and reboots the machine. Can you provide output of "nvram show" (can be executer in CFE), please? Maybe there are some entries related to watchdog...

I'll be building and testing as you suggest this week, but in the meantime here is the boot log from DD-WRT_v24beta.  I know we are talking apples versus oranges but perhaps the output will shed light.  After all DD-WRT_v24beta boots correctly.

The most interesting in this build is not lack of WiFi, but the lack of tg3. Your testing was very helpful, thanks for your work on this!

So now we're sure it's b53 that causes reboots. Removing tg3 resulted in b53 not initializing and this stopped these reboots.

I don't have hardware using tg3, but I have some routers supported by bgmac, so I was able to test b53 a bit more. The fact is that b53 resets switch twice during standard boot. There is my log with some extra debugging logs:

Above proves that b53 resets switch twice:

  1. Right before "b53_common: found switch"

  2. Right after "Broadcom 43xx driver loaded"

It's really weird in case of your old logs, that we can see:

which means the first switch reset didn't cause a reboot. Than we can see

and the device reboots...

It all means that for some reason, it's the second switch reset that causes reboot. My guess is that the first (incorrect) switch reset changes GPIO value from (default) 0 to 0 and then to 1. Later second (incorrect) switch reset changes GPIO value from 1 (last) value to 0 and this is the reason devices reboots.
