Hello Everyone,

First post to the forum - if this is in the wrong section - please move.

I have started a Wiki page here : http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-vg3631 for the TP-Link VG3631 ADSL2+ router

As per the wiki page the device is Linux based with a MIPS CPU.

GPL Source code links and some basic hardware notes are on the page.

I have created some Diff patch files against a vanilla Linux 2.6.22 kernel - linked in Wiki

I am new to OpenWRT but would like to try and work towards a build environment for this router.

I have read the wiki in regards to adding a new device into the Buildroot environment - but I am a bit lost when it comes to that as I have never done it before.

If any one can provide some points to get me started with the build environment for this device it would be appreciated.

The GPL code : http://www.tp-link.com.au/resources/gpl … GPL.tar.gz - appears to already contain a modified buildroot environment.

Cheers,

OAM

Can you post more detailed info about the router?

More details ... Certainly?
What do you need to know??

The Wiki page I created has more details than my post above - http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-vg3631

As mentioned on the Wiki page - the router is definitely Linux based - the Wiki page also has links to GPL firmware downloads from TP-Link

You can extract a SquashFS image from the firmware

BootLoader ETC : Having problems with my serial connector - I soldered headers to some contact pads listed as `COM` on the PBC - but so far have not be able to see anything.

I have some knock off CA-42 USB to serial cables that I am trying to use - but am fairly new to all of this so might be doing something wrong.

From what I can tell the Serial COM's standard TX is ~3.3-3.5 volts and RX is Zero volts ( as the RX takes power from the remote TX ?? )

I have tried cross over connection TX --> RX and RX --> TX - but so far nothing.

I might need a resistor or something else to be soldered onto the PBC - but as I said - new to this so not sure - might be a COM's speed / parity bit setting or something

I will upload a picture of the com's point a bit later on - If you have any suggestions please let me know

I have updated the wiki page for VG3631 - http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-vg3631

There is definitely a serial port - I watched the boot process and copoed a log into the wiki page  - however due to some bad soldering on my part I am unable to log in via serial at the moment.

I have serial com's with the VG3631 - I am trying to drop into the boot environment but it only gives me a time out of 0.1 seconds for keypress ( Yes Zero. One seconds )

Keypress is working - when i get to the login prompt I can type in text - but not fast enough to catch the boot loader

I am currently using a USB --> TTL serial cable and Minicom

Linux environment is Ubuntu 32bit in vmware player

Any suggestions on how I might be able to trap this??

I was going to try a native linux install and see if that worked

Hi All,

did anyone has any success in installing openwrt on VG3631 ?
