Topic: The TP-Link TL-MR13U Inside-Loook

this mini-route(really not kind mini as we think),is kind expencive,abot two piece of wr703/mr10u.
it's with a big battery,we alardy know it,i got one the mr13u,and disassemble it.

it kind suck if you wana teardown it,it use a lot glues just like mr3020,when you openit,bascly have no way put it back just like before,you may need some glur to combin them.

@slboat, finally you got this biggie ;-) Great pictures, thank you! Any chance to get same flash and RAM mods for this device?

yes,i think the mod can be fit on it,it's ar9331 too,i haven't try it,maybe next day!
great work by you!i will try the trunk firmware see if fit it.

in this route tp-link use a lot very small compont just like 0201,01005 kind stuff,it's wired,because the pcb is have too many empty space.

Re: The TP-Link TL-MR13U Inside-Loook

I made a mistake in my patch, Cezary Jackiewicz was so kind to comment me about it - we need to use "001301"*) in ./target/linux/ar71xx/base-files/lib/ar71xx.sh.

Maybe smaller components are cheaper?

that cloud be:)i still like wr703 mostly,small box,easy to open,easy to close.i dont see a bigger battery is any good for a route(if the size is bigger too)

Re: The TP-Link TL-MR13U Inside-Loook

Great photos! Thank you! Could you please check how many LEDs this unit have? I assume it  should have at least 5 blue LEDs - 4 for battery level meter and 1 LED for status. Maybe it has some more.

I see you found serial port, could you please capture OEM bootlog? We don't have it in wiki yet.

Yes, WR703N is a masterpiece! I have a lot of fun with it. MR13U is nice too - it is small enough, has really huge  battery. I would like to try to put pineapple on it :-)

Re: The TP-Link TL-MR13U Inside-Loook

Whats the battery type? Do you know?

Would it be possible to use one of these batteries in a mr10u to extend its battery life?

Re: The TP-Link TL-MR13U Inside-Loook

The battery used in MR10U and MR13U are completely identical. Their official name is "Li-ion 18650 with protection circuit" ("18" stands for diameter in mm, and 650 for its length in mm too). You can buy the at eBay, DX, AliExpress, etc... or take off from old notebook battery. MR13U uses them in parallel.

I assume that in MR13U they use red (positive) and black (negative) cables to supply power and two yellow cables are connected to NTC thermistor to provide readings of battery temperature. There is no balancing charging circuit in place - it requires 5 cables for 4 batteries and 2 extra cables for sensor.

Re: The TP-Link TL-MR13U Inside-Loook

Could you show us  where the serial port is ?

Re: The TP-Link TL-MR13U Inside-Loook

Take a closer look at last photo - search for TX and RX labels close to circular conductive pads.

Re: The TP-Link TL-MR13U Inside-Loook

MR11U Serial Gnd and Gnd has a resistance of about 0.7 ohm. ( I can be wrong on the exact value because my multimeter is a bit flaky, but its not zero for sure). Perhaps you need  resistance ?

Re: The TP-Link TL-MR13U Inside-Loook

@slboated
Did you managed to connect the serial port?

I also wonder if there are some free GPIOs.

Re: The TP-Link TL-MR13U Inside-Loook

@slboated

I'm also wondering if you manged to get serial access to this device.
